With your effort so far + wordpress communities on the whole, has enabled millions of people who’re not IT literate to be able to blog with ease.

To make the celebration even better, Jai of blogohblog is holding a contest which offer 5 premium wordpress themes as a reward. If you win, you can have premium theme from blogohblog or other premium theme of your choice (to be clear, it is single user license only).

business opportunities when everyone wants to blog

After the recent PRU , blogging seems to be the favourite activity for everyone including our politicians. Be it retired politicians, current MPs or ex-MPs, MPs on both government and oppositions, they are all starting their own blogs. I happen to read somewhere else before, that someone has suggested to put a mandatory prerequisite to have a blog before you can move forward in your politic career path.

Besides, as I grow older, I noticed that even secondary school students have started to blog. And the fact that they’re more knowledgeable and earn more than their older counterparts, is amazing. This is contrary when I was at their age almost 10 years ago. I hardly heard aboutinternet, and blog was such as ‘alien’ term to me back then (yeah blog does exist > 10 years ago). But the world has changed now.

The impact on local market?

More or less this trend will contribute to a higher demand of internet products and services on local internet market such as e-book, especially on how to kick start blogging, how to write , how to make money from blogging and even perhaps, ‘what is blog’. \

Service is another area that could have higher demand in future. There are couple of potential businesses due to the rise of this activity.
First one. As we know, only a handful of politicians know about IT or specifically on how to setup a blog. Most of them (and their staffs) are also ‘buta IT’, or too busy to do that. So to kick off their blog’s development and setup, most likely it will be out sourced to 3rd parties.

Other than web development, SEO does have its own importance too even though most of us missed that part. But I don’t think politic blogs need this, since the author usually is well known public figure, and usually it’ll get promoted from link back and mouth to mouth promotion.
Apart from that, do you think that they have time to properly write and proof read it or translate the article to English or Bahasa Malaysia perfectly? And do they know how to post it? I doubt so. Another pool of money here.

Social media such as Facebook and Youtube has never been as important as now. When free advertising (or campaign) using this media is reachable to mass audience, and as effective as traditional media, it has become such a lethal weapon to your career or business. See Colbie Caillat, and how successful she is. Similar concept can be leveraged to their career or business. They’ll need someone who has vast experience with tips and tricks on these areas to get this done with success. So why wait? Start mastering these skills and go to business.
You might say that there are a lot of Internet Marketers selling ebooks and providing such services. But it’s still not late to jump into the boat. It’s not necessarily true that the inventor will stay ahead of you forever, the late comer . IBM is the best example of computer inventor but end up selling the business to Lenovo due to stiff competition with creative rivals

With current politic and making money online trend nowadays, you can predict more blogs created everyday.

But I ‘m very aware that not everyone is interested to be affiliate marketer or internet marketer. I wish I can post my humble opinion about affiliate marketing, whether it is for everyone soon

Official Kontera wordpress plugin

Finally, Kontera released their own Kontera wordpress plugin for publisher to display their ‘content link ads‘ . At a glance, it looks better than previous plugin that I used, with more control on how the ads looks like and where you want it to appear, which can be setup directly from control panel.

This is good news if you’re doing Pay Per Post and other sponsored review which not allowing other text link ads to appear within the post. This feature actually also available on previous plugin, but you have to open up each post and choose No on Display Kontera ads dropdown menu

Display Facebook updates in your wordpress dashboard

I’m currently on Facebook mood, so you might see Facebook related posts for the next couple of days in a row.

Luckily I now can open Facebook in my office. Otherwise this Facebook Dashboard Widget plugin would come in handy to view what your Facebook’s friends are doing

Basically it display the RSS feed of your friend’s notification, status update and posted items and display it on your WordPress’s dashboard.

You can copy and paste the feed links to your RSS reader as well to view the similar items, but this plugin is intended so you can view everything in one places (especially if you spend most of your time in your blog)

Installation

1. Download the plugin
2. Unzip facebook-dashboard-widget.zip
3. Upload the entire facebook-dashboard-widget folder to your plugins directory
4. Go to the Plugins page in your WordPress Administration area and click to ‘Activate’ the Facebook Dashboard Widget.
5. Setup your plugin accordingly by following steps provided on the setup menu

Open you dashboard, and you should be able to view it such as on the screen shot below

Pages broken after wordpress 2.5.1 upgrade

Apparently the WordPress 2.5.1 upgrade last week did not went smooth as what I initially thought. I missed testing my wordpress pages (not post) above such author, contact form. If you notice, all pages were broken. It’ll direct me to 404 page. I only came across to this issue when I trying to add top post and archive page. It works on preview but not when it get published

Root cause?
It seems like this is related to permalink , not related to what so ever plugin. Upon checking on WordPress forum, it has been reported since version 2.5, but similar issue is still there. If I modify back the permalink structure to default setup, or using resolution (a) below, the pages are accessible.

Resolution

a) for normal or ‘pretty’ permalink (most of us use this)

Simply change your permalink to /%postname%/ or use default structure . It works in this blog, but I prefer to to stay with current permalink /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ since all my contents were indexed this way by search engine. I worried that Google will see this as broken link, even though I have Permalink Redirect plugin installed. Hopefully I manage to find the permanent fix soon

b) For PATHINFO permalink structure

This is for those who using Apache running on Windows or those that permalink structure beginning with index.php E.g /index.php/%postname%/ .Download new rewrite.php from here, and replace the current file at your /wp-include directory. You can find the discussion’s thread here.

Looks like I had to live with broken pages at least for now, for the sake of permalink and the contents indexed by search engines. Since I don’t have any contact form, should you have any inquiry, just leave it at any comment section, or shoot me an email to zakifahmi at gmail dot com

Learn more about permalink from this page. Heck, I waste a lot of time to figure out this fix since last night, but at least I learn a lot of things. Fair enough!!
