Sony Ericsson Aspen Featuring Windows Mobile 6.5.3

sony erisson aspen Sony Ericsson Aspen Featuring Windows Mobile 6.5.3

This phone remind me of Sony Ericsson P990i, once sought after phone in this part of the world. It’s the first QWERTY phone I have which it run on aging Symbian OS. The P-series phone continued by it’s successor P1, but without the QWERTY keypad. Since then I’n no longer follows Sony Ericsson phone, just like Nokia until it has killer app.

Sony Ericsson Aspen caught everyone attention because the fact that, this it the first smartphone run on Windows Mobile 6.5.3. It is no secret that Windows Mobile 6.5 has received lukewarm response from consumers mainly due to inconsistent navigation, lack of capacitive touch screen, multi touch as well as outdated UI in certain location and sluggish performance. When Windows Mobile 6.5.3 leaked couple of months ago with refreshed UI, it looks certain that this OS is going to be around soon to fix 6.5 version.

Beside the polished UI, Windows Mobile 6.5.3 also bring in slew of new features, such as capacitive touch screen with multi touch, some tweak on IE to improve performance. For the record HTC HD2 which run on Windows 6.5 is the first Windows Mobile smart phone that has capacitive touchscreen.

Instead of full touchscreen smartphone, it is QWERTY smartphone for business that first taste Windows Mobile 6.5.3 in the form of Sony Ericsson Aspen. Well, it kinda disappointing as full screen smartphone is what majority of us are looking for.

The sleek design may appeal to business users, with combination of touch screen and full QWERTY kaypad to navigate through the phone.

This phone has been covered by almost tech blog earlier on, so it is better that you read the press release which give you full detail about Sony Ericsson Aspen. Anyway, you can find more Sony Ericsson images here.

HTC HD Smartphone To Be Launched Today

htc hd2 launch HTC HD Smartphone To Be Launched Today

You read it right, that HTC HD2 is going to be launched today for Malaysia market. We’re ahead of the US icon smile HTC HD Smartphone To Be Launched Today . It is going to be the ‘biggest’ launch as stated in the promo, but with double “”, it has got to do with something else I guess, such as biggest screen, biggest phone or even ‘biggest’ price…

While I’m still pondering if I should be there, I’ve gone through a lengthy review from GSM Arena about this Windows Mobile 6.5 powered phone, in order not to get over excited. You know,  it is Windows Mobile la.. from Microsoft, not some cool iPhone or Andoid…  Well, that’s just a common perception that the word sometimes come from the person who has never used it. Weird?

In a nutshell, Windows Mobile 6.5 with Sense UI from HTC is really a different thing altogether, unlike it’s predecessor. HTC HD is also equipped with capacitive touchscreen  to appeal more users. Think of iPhone’s touchscreen, not Blackberry Storm.  As Windows Mobile smartphone tends to be slightly expensive than its rival, you should really read the review beforehand, if you plan to get one for yourself . Windows Mobile is thing of the past?? Hold off your word until you try this one.

Microsoft My Phone Beta opened

myphone install Microsoft My Phone Beta opened

My application for My Phone beta has been accepted, but unfortunately no Windows Mobile phone around, that I can used to try this out. What a waste…

Windows Mobile 6.0 users are highly recommend to use this free service, available here. It took about 3 weeks to get it approved, but probably longer now, due to huge number of interested users.

In case you started to loss of what I’m talking here, My Phone is Microsoft mobile phone service, that allows Windows Mobile device to connect and use My Phone to store, backup and manage the phones data online.

You’ll need My Phone to to be installed on the phone, prior that. As of now, My Phone is only compatible with Windows Mobile 6.0 and above, for non-touch screen  and touch screen with stylus devices. Each account will have 200MB storage by default.

My Phone can synchronizes contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, photos, videos, text messages, music, and documents that are stored on the device. The synchronized contents can be viewed on My Phone (as the screen shot below), so you no longer worry of missing data in case of anything happen to the device.

A glimpse of Windows Mobile Marketplace

windows mobile marketplace A glimpse of Windows Mobile Marketplace

A glimpse of an early stage of Windows Mobile Marketplace  can be seen now, as discovered by pocketnow who were tipped by anonymous. I guess, this is what Windows Mobile users has anticipated since annocement about it made by Microsoft quite sometime back.

Mobile app marketplace which being lead by Apple, Android , Nokia(Ovie Store)and  Blackberry (who just opened its store last week) soon will become even crowded, with this addition from  Microsoft and probably Samsung (heard the rumors) later.

Which one will give Apple run for their money yet to be seen. Android has the biggest potential, but it should persuade mobile phone manufactures to come out with prettier, good looking and interesting model, run on Android.
