Wimax need no introduction in Malaysia, with P1 Wimax championing the Wimax initiatives over here. If you haven’t heard of it and it’s kinda interesting is, soon, there will be Wimax 2 as well. This is the continuation of Wimax of course. While the Wimax 2 standard is still being finalized, the mind-boggling speed it touted can achieved is very impressive. Well.. they’re talking about 100Mbps download speed!! This is significantly faster than Wimax is currently offering, and suddenly made existing Wimax standard is way too outdated .
For the sake of comparison, the fastest P1 Wimax package currently have is… 3Mbps. Now imagine 100MBps, that’s sound too much, now let say 30MBps, that’s already 10t fold increased! Being the Wimax major supporter, I’m sure that P1 Wimax is very much aware of this, and perhaps they already have something on mind. To sustain Wimax growth rate, it is brilliant if existing Wimax modem is compatible with Wimax 2, but I guess would software update sufficient? Anyhow I’ll be more than happy to get just fraction of Wimax 2 download speed.

P1 Wimax used to have huge presence in PC Fair held before this, and I can guess it would be the same now especially with new product such as Wimax Inside notebooks that they’re currently heavily promoting it with their OEM partners. There are now 5 Wimax Inside notebook/netbook with addition of 2 notebook from Asus and MSI each on top of 3 notebook from Acer and Lenovo which available since the release day. Notebook package comes with 6 months of free P1 Wimax service, while netbook enjoy free P1 Wimax worth of RM278 (until spetember). Best of all, there is P1 Wimax IT Travel Kit freebies if you get your Wimax Inside laptop from PC Fair 2010.

P1 Wimax has released it’s latest product 2 days ago, Wimax-Inside notebooks, a notebook with Wimax chip readily available inside of the notebook. Straight to the point, the chip eliminate the need of external device such as modem in order to connect to P1 Wimax network. The Wimax-inside notebook is co-developed between P1 Wimax themselves with Intel as the Wimax chip maker as well as notebook vendor such as Acer, Lenovo and MSI.
Notebook/Netbook
During the launch day, there are only 3 notebook/netbook available to choose from, but P1 promised a lot more to come. The only thing differentiate this notebook from what is available on the market is the Intel Centrino Advanve-N + WiMAX 6250, the built-in Wimax chip that available inside. The price of the notebook/netbook is slightly higher, but that’s expected with the additional chip inside although it’s best to keep the price on par with the market price.
- Lenovo IdeaPad V360 Notebook – 2599
- MSI U135 Netbook – 1349
- Acer Aspire One 533 Netbook – 1499
Package
Of course this laptops is bundled with P1 Wimax packages as well. Only 1 package available, called 1INSIDE , with 15GB quote and RM89 m0thly fee. There is promotion running now where P1 is giving away 3 months free service to netbook buyer and 6 months of free service to notebook buyer.
Notebook preinstalled with Wimax chip that P1 promise to be released later this year will be released on 28th June. If you’re wondering how the notebook or commonly referred now as Wimax-inside netbook looks like, here is some photos tweeted by P1Media.
If you’re expecting P1 branded notebook, you’re wrong my dear reader, as the notebook is well.. notebook/netbook from brands such as Dell, Asus and etc. What differentiate them is the Wimax chip from Intel that being embedded on the notebook. Both netbook and notebook are available depend on how deep is your pocket.
At the meantime, you might want to view WimaxInside as there is prize given weekly till the launch date, but I guess it is quite late now already.

You may notice the series of High Speed Broadband (HSBB) printed ads, published on major newspaper on the past few days. The ads carrying the message of what HSBB actually is, and how it can benefited citizens towards the new Economy Model currently promoted by federal government.
Out of fancy ads, there is one thing that caught my attention, which stating that HSBB will complement Streamyx, instead of replacing it as most of you expected including me . I’m sure most of you will think that HSBB will eventually replacing Streamyx, but that’s appear not quite true at this moment.
To get the better understanding about this matter, there are 2 type of broadband category under National Broadband Initiative (NBI). One is HSBB as you familiar with, and Broadband for the General Population (BGPP) which many had just heard it for the first time today. The different between these 2 broadband service is, HSBB will cater for high economic impact areas such as Klang Valley while Broadband for the General Population (BGPP) is for areas. And for Streamyx, it is one of BGPP which includes 3G, HSPA, Wimax and fixed line
So, what do you think?
