Neofonie WePad – Another Android Based Tablet

If Apple is famous with naming all it’s product with ‘i’ prefix, Neofonie, a Germany company is more comfortable with ‘we’ prefix. They have WeFind, WeMagazine and now WePad, a slate or tablet computer as the newest product under their portfolio.

WePad has pretty goods design with minimalist in mind. There is not even a single button on the screen surface. Powering WePad is Intel Atom N450 1.66Ghz processor with Intel GMA 3150 graphics ship. Android is the OS of choice, another evident why Apple really piss off with Android icon smile Neofonie WePad Another Android Based Tablet

All signs at the moment showing that we’ll see more tablet PC coming out this year. Just 2 months into year 2010, we already have HP Slate, iPad, Joojoo and iTablet (not from Apple), now adding the growing list of tablet is Adam, another tablet PC that’s looks promising.

Adam, as this tablet pc called is developed by Notion Ink, a small start up company from India. You may notice that the trend of unknown or small companies pioneering the development of tablet PC. Tablet PC is new segment in computing, and yet to prove it potential. It does exist before, but in different form without touch screen, bulky and nice OS. Before seeing the consumer respond to this device, these big corps are taking wait and see stance, before jumping to the market when it is proven, as money making machine.

First the looks. The physical design may not as slick as iPad or even Joojoo which focus on minimalist. But it does offer more than the later on certain part, with multiple ports given as shown by the specification below. Adam is 30mm in width, so it is going to be one of the thinnest tablet PC in the market.

The screen is made of 10″ transflective LCD, which provide better readability under the bright sun. It got HDMI port, 3 USB ports and rotating camera which can be flip upward and backward. Interestingly, it got touchpad at the back of the body; first of any kind . You can see how the touch pad works on the video below.

It runs on Android, brilliant choice considering the attention it had right now. Adams can runs on Chromium and Linux OS as well.

Adam is scheduled to be available on the market, or specifically US by June/July. With all these pretty impressive specification, Adam is obviously going to be one of the strong contender to capture an early lead in tablet PC market.

Oh well, finally Jen-ii, formerly known as Makcik PC has been destined to meet the world. You gotta believe it!

It is reported that Jen-ii is ready to be marketed very soon, re-branded for the second time as Idola 1Malaysia. Mimos, who develop this tablet has struct a deal with TM, to market as well as developing content for Jen-II.

I’m not sure what kind of deal is that, but it is most likely that TM will come out with special package consisting of Jen-II and Streamyx broadband. User will pay certain amount of fee for this tablet and tied to the contract for certain period. Well, that’s just my wild guess.

Anyway, I can’t find the detail of Jen-II from Mimos website, so here is some excerpt from the press. Wait, where is original iDola??

  • Equipped with Wiwi – Combination of Wimax + Wifi adapter
  • Intelligent Service Delivery Platform (ISDP)  -  Enables users to pull relevant information from the internet. Will be used to create widgets as well
  • Comes with 8 buttons — 4 button for community websites and the other 4 reserved for business websites — to execute certain transactions.
  • SDK will be released for developers to develop application for Jen-II

iTablet – Another Tablet In The Making

I’m sure that iTablet is giving first impression to anyone who  heard about it,  that this is an Apple creation, which used with naming their product with  ‘i’ prefix. But that’s not the true for iTablet as this is made by X2, a UK’s company. At a glance, it looks promising with clean design, white casing without bezel as well as curvy edge. The website showcased in the demo looks perfect.

Inside this tablet is 1.6 Ghz Intel processor, 250GB internal storage, 3G chip and Bluetooth. Making this tablet more compelling is 3 UsB ports, HDMI and 1.3 Megapixel Camera. It comes in 2 sizes , 10.2″ and 12.1″ with thickness of 35mm, making it one of the thickest tablet so far. It run on Windows 7 OS (but the demo version is running on Windows XP),

Pricing is not yet available as this tablet is only going to be in the market on April. But given that competing tablet such as iPad and Joojoo are priced as low as $499, expecting iTablet going to have price tag within that range as well to remain competitive.
