Sony Ericsson Aspen Featuring Windows Mobile 6.5.3

sony erisson aspen Sony Ericsson Aspen Featuring Windows Mobile 6.5.3

This phone remind me of Sony Ericsson P990i, once sought after phone in this part of the world. It’s the first QWERTY phone I have which it run on aging Symbian OS. The P-series phone continued by it’s successor P1, but without the QWERTY keypad. Since then I’n no longer follows Sony Ericsson phone, just like Nokia until it has killer app.

Sony Ericsson Aspen caught everyone attention because the fact that, this it the first smartphone run on Windows Mobile 6.5.3. It is no secret that Windows Mobile 6.5 has received lukewarm response from consumers mainly due to inconsistent navigation, lack of capacitive touch screen, multi touch as well as outdated UI in certain location and sluggish performance. When Windows Mobile 6.5.3 leaked couple of months ago with refreshed UI, it looks certain that this OS is going to be around soon to fix 6.5 version.

Beside the polished UI, Windows Mobile 6.5.3 also bring in slew of new features, such as capacitive touch screen with multi touch, some tweak on IE to improve performance. For the record HTC HD2 which run on Windows 6.5 is the first Windows Mobile smart phone that has capacitive touchscreen.

Instead of full touchscreen smartphone, it is QWERTY smartphone for business that first taste Windows Mobile 6.5.3 in the form of Sony Ericsson Aspen. Well, it kinda disappointing as full screen smartphone is what majority of us are looking for.

The sleek design may appeal to business users, with combination of touch screen and full QWERTY kaypad to navigate through the phone.

This phone has been covered by almost tech blog earlier on, so it is better that you read the press release which give you full detail about Sony Ericsson Aspen. Anyway, you can find more Sony Ericsson images here.

Unboxing Sony Cyber-Shot W180 Camera

4287197009 337d0281d5 Unboxing Sony Cyber Shot W180 Camera

The hunt for simple camera with movie recording function ended up with Sony Cyber-Shot W180 , cost only RM499 from Sony Centre. The price is just for the camera set itself, without memory stick and camera pouch (add RM70 more to get those items). The same model in sale at Sonystyle is priced at RM699.

Sony Cyber-Shot W180 is one of the low end cameras in Cyber-Shot family. It is pretty much a basic camera with 10 mega-pixel resolution, 3 x zoom, SteadyShot, Smile Shutter and other basic functions you can find on almost point & shoot camera nowadays. Nothing really stand out, except that,  it is Sony Cyber-shot, which is a very admired brand camera model here in Malaysia.

Unlike the more expensive Cyber-Shot model, this model is not equipped with BIONZ, a standard image processor for Sony cameras. Expect the photo quality is below what BIONZ equipped camera can produce.

Along with the camera set are standard equipments such as charger, USB cable as well as A/V cable.

In terms of quality, the movie mode does not support HD recordings, where the image size is fixed at only at 320 X 240. However the still image mode can capture HD format 1920 x 1080.

As usual, more photos below.. using my old EOS1000D. Another reason why I love this camera is, it can fit into my pocket nicely.

Sony Viao P landed in Malaysia – starting price at RM2788

viaop1 450x326 Sony Viao P landed in Malaysia starting price at RM2788

It didn’t take long for Sony Vaio P to reach Malaysia. After unveiled  at CES early January,  it was launched in Malaysia last Wednesday on the low profile events.

The first netbook from Sony doesn’t come cheap though. With the price started at RM2788 for lower end (P13), and RM3788 for higher end (p15), Viao P is obviously the most expensive netbook on the market so far.

Typical Sony Viao, the built and design is great (from photos). Powered by Intel Atom just like other netbook, Viao P1 carrying Vista as it operating system which justify why it come 2GB memory by default.

Not much info on Sony website including the press release, so head to lowyat.net who has representative attending the event.

Ask Flickr : Which camera is the best??

Like Topo, I’m looking for an entry level DSLR camera as well. It’s been almost 3 years since my wife bought our first digital camera, Olympus Camedia C-60. We had soooo much sweet memories with it, such as our wedding ceremony and our little Luqman photos. As time goes by, there comes the need and desire for a new and better camera, nothing other than DSLR camera.

Looking for a value for money stuff, is normally not an easy task. I have what I want in mind, although not 100% sure yet. I’ve been reading numerous reviews on the net and asking from friends of mine about what’s good and hot at the moment, but let’s keep that aside at the moment.

Why don’t we take a look at a different angle? Just like taking photos, yeah!! Flickr, being the second largest online photo sharing site has 1 nice little feature that I’ve fortunately noticed about it today. It can detect what type of camera used to take the photos uploaded automatically.

So let’s take a look what’s most popular cameras in Flickr. Hope this helps!

The first graph below showing what is the most popular cameras in Flickr.No entry level DSLR camera ranked here. Notice Apple iPhone over there??

Now, let’s go a little bit closer. Choose 1 brand, for instance Canon, which is one of the brands in my shortlist. Again, not entry level camera listed here.
3127437565 ddaaa289c9 o Ask Flickr : Which camera is the best??

Beside the graph, it is also listing down all Canon cameras used in Flickr. This is the graph of Canon EOS 1000D. As you can see, the graph is increasing dramatically towards the end of year. This is expected since 1000D is only introduced on Jun 2008. Although it is relatively new camera, but has started to gain popularity among Flickr communities. Just some stats taken from Flickr

*  4,633 items uploaded yesterday
* 451 users yesterday
* Ranked 18 of 156 Canon Cameras

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS/1000D Usage This Year

Conclusion

It is safe to assume that the graphs are only showing the popularity of these cameras on any certain period. So the trend keeps on changing everyday depending on how many photos are uploaded. But it should give you pretty good idea about how popular they are. Trends lasted for few months before a new comer comes in an conquer the market. Another thing is, only 2/3 photos uploaded are able to be detected by Flickr.
