HTC Magic Update To Android Froyo Is Just a Dream?

HTC Magic Update To Android Froyo Is Just a Dream?

MyTouch 3G users in the US,  or known more here as HTC Magic has at least kind word from T-Mobile that their smartphone too will receive update to Froyo sometime in future. Although that’s just statement, at least they have something to dream off. Over to this side of the world, HTC Magic users including myself basically still in the dark if our smartphone too will receive update.

HTC is a great company, but they seems to concentrate more on releasing tonnes of new, cool and great Android phones. At the same time they’re ignoring the users who brave themselves to be among the earliest buyer of HTC’s Android smartphones.

That’s the thing that kinda piss me off sometime and I believe shared by many user as well. You know, not everyone willing to root and flash cooked ROM to their smartphone. It will void the warranty as well.  To HTC or SIS,  if you read this, could you please tell me when??

By doing simple math, minimum fee you need to pay is RM108 (Value Plan 50 + RM58 (500 MB) data that bring the total to 1296 for 1 year. Minus RM700 (HTC Desire price subsidized by Maxis), you only pay RM596 for 1 year voice and data usage minimum, or about RM 50 permonth. Is that good??

HTC Sense is a user experience focused on putting people at the centre by making phones work in a more simple and natural way. One of the hottest Android smartphones in Malaysian market right now is HTC Legend, which is also the latest HTC smartphone in the market, having just been launched last month. Being an Android user for almost 5 months till now, specifically with HTC Magic, I did get myself a unit of this phone, but unfortunately for just merely 5 days.

Well,  here is the first view of HTC Legend, out of the box, with the phone still in plastic cover. The style of HTC phone packaging is pretty much in the same way like its older phone such as HTC Magic that I had.

Taking out everything from the box… you got pretty standard accessories from any smartphones. HTC Legend package comes with AC adapter, USB cable, 2GB micro SD, manuals, battery, earphone and etc.

More HTC Legend images from different angle is available below. My first impression about this phone once I held it is, it is pretty heavy, something that I do no expect from the phone with this size. The weight is largely contributed by aluminium unibody casing that wraps this phone. It’s one solid phone that’s not easy to be cracked!

Generally, HTC Legend is a pretty phone with common HTC design language such as chin or buttons, which are nicely constructed on phone. At the glance, nothing really differentiate the looks from its older model, especially with HTC Hero.

The volume is placed on the left side of the phone, 3.5mm stereo audio jack at the top and the USB miniport at the bottom of the phone.

I must admit that AMOLED screen is gorgeous, and that’s the reason I sell this phone off as well. Basically I want a bigger screen, that’s all. Pretty lame excuse I guess.

I feel the responsiveness of the capacitive touch screen has improved from the model like HTC Magic. The scrolling from 1 screen to another is smooth. I have no longer accidentally clicking and opening the app icon while doing that. This improvement in performance is largely due to the more powerful processor as well as RAM/ROM that powers this phone.  HTC Legend runs on Android 2.1 with HTC’s own UI customization.

Lastly, here are some images of HTC Legend with HTC Magic side by side. Obviously HTC Legend is the better phone here, but unfortunately, that is not enough to persuade me to keep it much longer.

HTC Desire To Be Launched In Malaysia On 27th of May

htc desire promo HTC Desire To Be Launched In Malaysia On 27th of May

Nexus One is definitely one of the great Android smartphone available in the market right now, but you can’t walk in to any phone outlet (here) to get one. HTC Desire on the other hand, is the HTC’s own version of Nexus One, although Nexus One itself is a co-developed smartphone between HTC and Google.

It is not really a breaking news, but for some people that still not aware of, HTC Desire will be officially launched this Thursday 27th May in KL. Well yes, HTC Desire has been around for a while now, thanks to the AP set of gray importer, so this launch is to officiate the presence of this smartphone with HTC’s sole distributor in Malaysia, SIS.

From the news floating on forums as well as social media, Maxis will adding HTC Desire under it’s growing Android phone lineup. I’m not sure how much Maxis is willing to subsidize the prize, but If you keen to get one, you may want to wait what Maxis has to offer.

HTC Desire’s retail price is expected to be around RM2100 or RM2200. Unsure which smartphone is better, head to this page.
