“We had nearly ten thousand devices running automated tests daily, over a half million hours of active self-hosting use, over three and a half million hours of stress test passes, and eight and a half million hours of fully automated test passes.  We’ve had thousands of independent software vendors and early adopters testing our software and giving us great feedback. We are ready”

Catch up TV in Malaysia

Have you ever watched or followed any tv drama series? Missed any one of the episodes? Don’t be upset, now there is this thing called catch up TV (in Malaysia), whereby you can go online and watch the missed episodes of yours. However, not all drama series are put up in the catch up TV programs, another possible solution, you can go to YouTube.

The catch up TV is actually based on which TV channel the drama series is on. Btw, it’s not just drama series, there are also other program series uploaded. In Malaysia, TV channels consist of RTM which includes TV1 and TV2, plus TV3, NTV7, 8TV, and TV9 which are under Media Prima Berhad. I only watch catch up TV from Media Prima Bhd’s channel, so this article is on one of the Media Prima’s channel, TV3. I tried to check out RTM’s video, but I was not able to watch the video.

Here comes the few steps to catch up on drama episodes that you’ve missed.

1. Go to the website. For this example, we’ll go to TV3 website.

2. First, in order for us to watch any catch up TV, we need to sign up as a member. This ID will then be applicable to other TV websites under Media Prima. Sign up and log in once done.

And that’s how the Catch Up TV works. I remembered there was once, when I was really attached to one Korean movie on 8tv that I watched it over and over again; Yu Hee The Witch, a really nice one I must tell you. However, they have taken it out from 8TV catch up programmes.

RTM goes digital, with potential 50000 jobs opportunities

By 2012, RTM,  the national broadcasting networks, is expecting to start digital broadcasting , moving from current traditional analog broadcast, which has been in service since RTM inception. The aging analog broadcast often resulting poor transmission especially to the rural areas, who than relied to Astro (paid view satellite television network) to get better coverage. The restructuring process slated to complete by 2015, which  might also marks the end of analog broadcast by 2015.

Upon completion, the planned digital broadcast will have 19 channels with 7 of them allocated to RTM. The rest of the channels will go to other media companies including Media Prima. At the moment, Media Prima has 4 channels under its umbrella, which means there are 8 more channels are open for other media players.

Contrary to public assumption that this is going to be fully RTM channels,  it is safe to say now that this is national digital broadcast project. Comprising various media companies, it will broadcasting various type of news, sports and entertainment tailored for multi-racial communities in country like Malaysia.

It needs special decoder (set-top-box) to receive the digital broadcast, which cost between RM200 – RN300. Those who can’t afford to purchase this decoder will get it for free or subsidized by government.  In 2-3 years, government is expecting television manufacturer to equip this decoder within the television sold on this country. Currently, there are 2,000 houses in Klang Valley involved on pilot program since 2006

On another interesting related development, this move is potentially creating 50,000 jobs related to the production house and other supporting industries. Not bad if this is going to real..
