RIM has previewed the upcoming the upcoming Blackberry Desktop Manager 6 in their latest blog post last week. With Blackberry OS 6  also due to be released soon as rumored, the new Blackberry Desktop Manager is obviously the perfect companion for the revamped OS.

The new desktop manager spot a fresh looks, far better than existing version. The UI is clean, clearly divided section between the main menu which now moved to the left bar, and the content on the right, clearly shifted from existing version which keep everything in the center of the screen. The menu and the content is presented in beautiful manner, and at the same time keep the information and other buttons visible to users.

BlackBerry Desktop Software v6.0 Limited Beta is currently opened to BlackBerry Beta Zone members only , so if you’re eager to test it out, take a look at this page to register yourself  www.blackberry.com/beta.

As Blackberry 6 nearing it’s release date, rumored to be 15 August (in the US), more videos leaked intentionally or unintentionally, but being a human, naturally unofficial stuff is more clear and tasty, right?? The most recent video obtained by folk at salomondrin.net showing Blackberry 9800 running on Blackberry 6, from the boot animation sequence till the phone is on. As you can guess, the touch screen is a must have here with pinch and zoom capability. The menu have been totally revamped. Instead of just 1 line of menu on existing OS, multiple line of menu that can be scrolled left right is good thing to have.

The official Blackberry Blog has also further fueled the excitement of their new OS with new set of photos showcasing the new multimedia menu. It’s not only they are prettier than they were today, but more features has been added. There are now Youtube integration, new camera control, new photo organizer and etc. With all these changes, the Blackberry identity you’re familiar with , black and blue color is still there though, so no worry. The only question remained is, when this phone will be released.

Steve Jobs’s Antenna Demo Draws Criticism From HTC, Nokia and RIM

This is the slide where all are began. When you have problem with your own stuff, dragging rival into the problem and stating they have (or all) the same problem  as well is not really a good idea. It’s not really ethical to say the least, for the sake of defending your own stuff. But that’s what Steve Jobs did, ‘brilliantly’ trying to divert the fact that not only iPhone 4 suffers from the antennagate , but so does smartphone from rival such as RIM’s Blackberry Bold 9700, HTC’s Droid Eris and Samsung Omnia II. The respond.. you can expect the backlash. Obviously they’re unhappy. There is no cursing or swearing of course..

RIM
“Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple.”

HTC

“Approximately .016% of customers,” Eric Lin, the company’s global PR and online community manager exclusively revealed to us before adding that “we have had very few complaints about signal or antenna problems on the Eris.” – pocket-link

Nokia

“Antenna design is a complex subject and has been a core competence at Nokia for decades, across hundreds of phone models. Nokia was the pioneer in internal antennas; the Nokia 8810, launched in 1998, was the first commercial phone with this feature.

Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying human behavior, including how people hold their phones for calls, music playing, web browsing and so on. As you would expect from a company focused on connecting people, we prioritize antenna performance over physical design if they are ever in conflict.

In general, antenna performance of a mobile device/phone may be affected with a tight grip, depending on how the device is held. That’s why Nokia designs our phones to ensure acceptable performance in all real life cases, for example when the phone is held in either hand. Nokia has invested thousands of man hours in studying how people hold their phones and allows for this in designs, for example by having antennas both at the top and bottom of the phone and by careful selection of materials and their use in the mechanical design.”

Blackberry 6 Demoed in Video Again

The pace of smartphone OS development nowadays, could easily left slow movers far behind. Unless they keep teasing the loyal customers as well as other users in general with some update or video to be specific of what’s is going on now, or what they can expect from them soon, this folks could jump ship to other more exciting platform. So do you think RIM is one of them?

RIM teasing us again with the latest video showcasing what is going to be inside Blackberry 6, their next gen OS. There are touch screen, intuitive user interface, gorgeous web browser, cool keypad and etc which is pretty much standard feature on modern mobile OS nowadays. It looks good compare what OS 5 has now, but the question remain is, when the first device with Blackberry 6 will available, and will older device upgradable as well? I personally wish that Curve 8520 that I use is upgradeable.
