Embed Flash file using Kimili Flash Embed plugin

Yesterday, I was on the look out for Flash plugin to display flash movie or file in Wordpress. After trying couple of plugins, I’m settled down with Kimili Flash Embed which best suits my needs. You can get it directly from Wordpress plugin menu (Wordpress 2.7 and above), or download it here.

What I like most about this plugin is, the existence of Flash button on the post page (like below),  to easily add any Flash file to the post.

Just like image and movie icon that work to insert image or movie into the post, the Kimili Flash Embed icon works to find the Flash file that you wish to be displayed on your Wordpress post.

The selection menu shown below, allow you to choose the Flash file and modify other setting, which then generate the code right inside the post. The code can be used anywhere you want in your blog such as your theme, sidebar or widget.

Alternatively, you can directly add any Flash using this syntax below, provided that you have already uploaded the Flash file prior that.

This plugin offers a lot of flexibility in order to display the Flash movie as you wish. There are a lot of options to choose from, but don’t worry too much if you think that’s too much.  The default setup is working fine (in this blog). The only thing you need to change is the location of the Flash file.

Read the configuration menu to learn more what each setting means. You might want view also what attributes it has.

The outcome can be viewed on the left sidebar of this blog.

Google ‘chroming’ Firefox with Chrome’s new tab style

Do you think Firefox should behaving like Google Chrome? The new Google Toolbar appears doing that.

The latest toolbar released yesterday making Firefox appearance Chrome looks alike. By default, when the new tab opened , the thumbnail of your favorite (most visited) sites will shown there.

Don’t like it showing favorites site? You can control the appearance of the new tab behavior, to be filled up by other websites or just a blank space from within the toolbar or Firefox setup.

But keep in mind, it works only on Firefox 3 and some users experiencing lags during browsing.

Typepad Anti Spam - another wordpress anti spam plugin

Other than Akismet and Spam Karma 2 (SK2) , Wordpress bloggers now have another reason to cheer up with the new anti spam plugin from Six Apart

If your current anti spam is not working as what you’ve expected, why not give Typepad Antispam a try. It is now available for Wordpress blogs and the current version 1.02 released recently is compatible with Wordpress up to version 2.5typepad anti spam

The installation process and activation which require API key, are very much similar with Akismet. It is not surprising, since the TypePad AntiSpam plugin for WordPress is derived from WP-Akismet by Matt Mullenweg. It is so similar even the ‘Caught Spam’ page has similar sentence and is differentiated only by plugin name (perhaps this is one of the T&C agreed between them).

I have Akismet and Typepad Anti Spam running on parallel for the last few days, and both of them managed to catch the same number of spams (and similar spams). The result is expected since it has similar design, but hope to see more from Typepad Anti Spam in future.

The initial run is considerably good, but the biggest advantage of Typepad over Akismet is, it is free for commercial and personal usage. I bet more commercial sites and prominent bloggers will turn to Typepad Anti Spam, after if it is proven effective later on.

“Akismet has caught 49,750 spam for you since you first installed it”

This is the number of spam comments/trackbacks/linkbacks that I’ve received over the last 13months. It translates to 125 daily (13 months=395 days). Without them, it is definitely a nightmare to bloggers. Thank you so much to Akismet for your service. Typepad Anti Spam, welcome aboard!
