P1 Wimax used to have huge presence in PC Fair held before this, and I can guess it would be the same now especially with new product such as Wimax Inside notebooks that they’re currently heavily promoting it with their OEM partners. There are now 5 Wimax Inside notebook/netbook with addition of 2 notebook from Asus and MSI each on top of 3 notebook from Acer and Lenovo which available since the release day. Notebook package comes with 6 months of free P1 Wimax service, while netbook enjoy free P1 Wimax worth of RM278 (until spetember). Best of all, there is P1 Wimax IT Travel Kit freebies if you get your Wimax Inside laptop from PC Fair 2010.
P1 Wimax has released it’s latest product 2 days ago, Wimax-Inside notebooks, a notebook with Wimax chip readily available inside of the notebook. Straight to the point, the chip eliminate the need of external device such as modem in order to connect to P1 Wimax network. The Wimax-inside notebook is co-developed between P1 Wimax themselves with Intel as the Wimax chip maker as well as notebook vendor such as Acer, Lenovo and MSI.
Notebook/Netbook
During the launch day, there are only 3 notebook/netbook available to choose from, but P1 promised a lot more to come. The only thing differentiate this notebook from what is available on the market is the Intel Centrino Advanve-N + WiMAX 6250, the built-in Wimax chip that available inside. The price of the notebook/netbook is slightly higher, but that’s expected with the additional chip inside although it’s best to keep the price on par with the market price.
Lenovo IdeaPad V360 Notebook – 2599
MSI U135 Netbook – 1349
Acer Aspire One 533 Netbook – 1499
Package
Of course this laptops is bundled with P1 Wimax packages as well. Only 1 package available, called 1INSIDE , with 15GB quote and RM89 m0thly fee. There is promotion running now where P1 is giving away 3 months free service to netbook buyer and 6 months of free service to notebook buyer.
Notebook preinstalled with Wimax chip that P1 promise to be released later this year will be released on 28th June. If you’re wondering how the notebook or commonly referred now as Wimax-inside netbook looks like, here is some photos tweeted by P1Media.
If you’re expecting P1 branded notebook, you’re wrong my dear reader, as the notebook is well.. notebook/netbook from brands such as Dell, Asus and etc. What differentiate them is the Wimax chip from Intel that being embedded on the notebook. Both netbook and notebook are available depend on how deep is your pocket.
At the meantime, you might want to view WimaxInside as there is prize given weekly till the launch date, but I guess it is quite late now already.
P1 Wimax, the local wireless broadband provider run on WiMax technology has announced their first netbook , another important device under their product line up. The netbook which will be equipped with WiMax chip alongside Wimax package and scheduled to be available by Q2 2010.
The netbook will be manufactured in Taiwan and competitively price so it will looks attractive to users who are looking for combo deal, device and wireless broadband package.
Very little info release to the media, so at the moment, the specification and the price of the netbook is still unknown. The image above doesn’t help much as well to have the clearer view of the netbook. Better images can be viewed here.
With existing netbook plus wireless broadband packages available in the market are offered below RM900, I can safely assume the price is going to be in that range as well, with up to 1 year contract.
I found one brief unboxing P1 Wiggy (P1′s Wimax modem) video, done by P1 team them self. There is nothing so special on unboxing part, as it’s just merely showing fancy modem inside metal casing.
The exciting part is when they’re running a speed test using speedtest.net, which produce very impressive result. It recorded 2.66mbps and 0.67 mbps for download and upload respectively. Tempting isn’t? I bet everybody love to have such speed at home, right. It’s look promising if this is for real (at all places) and of course continuously.
No location where the testing took place provided, but always keep in mind that speed is different from one place to another. It demonstrated how fast downloading videos from Ruumz as well, but as pointed out by someone in the video comment section, such speed is achievable due to the content that is hosted on the local website.
As comparison, my 1MB package Streamyx speed test is 0.72mbps/0.07mbp for download/upload when there are 3 computers connected simultaneously. The number is obviously lower than what P1 Wiggy has, but I still have faith in HSBB to deliver something better than that, or else it’s probably time to move on.
