Soon after the release, Nokia Malaysia has now started accepting pre-order for Nokia N900, the first Maemo 5 based smartphone. N900 is one of Nokia’s best bet and well designed smartphone so far, outdone it’s peers that run mostly on Symbian OS.

It was priced at RM2280, quite hefty price tag for smartphone with OS that just ‘dead’; that’s because Maemo has been merged with Intel’s Moblin to formed MeeGo. So far, it still unknown if MeeGo will go to N900, but at moment, the answer is NO.

Now you know the consequence, but N900 attractiveness is hard to resist. Be the first 300 to placed the orders online to receive following freebies, the best would be Nokia Extra Power DC-11.

If you thinking of placing the order, phone collection be made at Nokia Centre of your choice on 27-28th March. Click here to pre-order.

Symbian S^3 Released, S^4 Concept Previewed

The last time I use phone running on Symbian OS is early last year. It is Sony Ericsson P990i which runs on Symbian S60.

Forget the older S60.There is now Symbian S^3 which was released last month during MWC 2010 at Spain. It does have all the traits the other smartphone OS had including fast scrolling vertically and horizontally, beautiful UI, pinch to zoom , multitasking and etc. For Nokia which owns Symbian, with apps from Ovi Store, Symbian S^3 has the potential to be the huge hit with the right strategy.

But for other smartphone vendors, the adoption of this OS is likely going to be slow. Most will prefer to be ‘wait and see’ stance to see if Nokia itself successful in marketing Symbian S^3 phone such as Nokia X10 to the world.

But many will still skeptical about the new OS. For one including myself, I have always want the OS in my smartphone to get upgraded whenever new version coming out, instead of buying new phone. That doesn’t happen to my old Sony Ericsson, and that’s one thing that should be carefully considered when you plan to buy Symbian based phone in future.

Not to stuck with only Symbian^3 version, Symbian S^4 project has already in pipeline. The demos are already out showing the homescreen and photo UI concept. Not many impressed with that, but as this is just the concept, it could be modified according to the feedback received.

Symbian existence as an open source smartphone OS has rocky path. Other than to compete with proprietary OS such as iPhone, Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 Series and WebOS, the main threat comes from Android, an open source mobile OS as well, backed by Google. Android proven to be one of the most innovative mobile OS in recent years with it’s phone being adopted by almost all phone vendors and dominating the market once conquered by Symbian. Symbian has to move fast and innovative as well to stay relevant.

nokia n900 Nokia N900 Is Here Now!`

Little to be known if this phone already available through out Nokia retail store or it’s authorized seller, although the non official version already available in grey market since last month.

Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition, Very Affordable Phone With GPS And Nokia Maps

nokia 2710 Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition, Very Affordable Phone With GPS And Nokia Maps

One good reason why Nokia should stay exist is, their phones are made to cater different type of people, and without sacrificing some of it’s great feature. One such phone (that I wait to reach the store) is Nokia 2710. It is not a fancy phone, far from having typical smart phone design such as massive touch screen or snapdragon processor like the rest of trendy smart phone available in the market.

But the fact that this phone is equipped with GPS and capable or running Nokia’s Ovi Maps make this phone appeal to a lot of people who needs cheap phone with GPS but doesn’t need all those fancy stuff that they not gonna use.

The price is it’s single biggest advantage. A quick googling reveal the price is gonna be around 110 euro (162 US dollars) or RM535 (USd1 = RM3.3) according to Gsmarena. Well, that’s almost equal with Garmin 250, the cheapest GPS device from Garmin.

Good news that this phone is gonna be here soon as stated in Nokia Malaysia website. In case you plan to get a unit of GPS device, you can wait little bit longer if you prefer to have phone with GPS functionality instead. But with screen size measuring only2.2″ and 240 x 320 pixels in resolution, you got to be ready to open your eyes wide to view the direction on the screen.

Nokia X6 Comes To Celcom

nokia x6 Nokia X6 Comes To Celcom

Nokia X6, one of Nokia’s flagship phone dedicated for music which was unveiled last month in conjunction with the release of Comes With Music service in Malaysia,  is now making its ways to Celcom. Priced at RM1808 after subsidized by Celcom, you have to subscribe Celcom’s voice and data package to eligible buying this phone at that price.

It doesn’t stated if this Nokia X6 is Nokia X6 Comes With Music Edition, but there is high possibility, as it has the same RRP. Beside Nokia X6, there are more new phones available from Celcom such as Nokia E72 and Nokia N97 mini up for sale right now.
