While HTC smartphones sold in the US has been using SLCD display screen since last month, HTC smartphone sold in Malaysia still enjoying AMOLED display screen, but the joy appears to be short-lived.  Apparently  HTC smartphones model sold here including HTC Desire and Nexus One will start using Sony’s SLCD screen technology as well instead of AMOLED as announced today.

Samsung, the maker of AMOLED display screen reported has hard time fulfilling the demand for AMOLED and Super AMOLED that is now pretty much a standard feature on high end smartphone nowadays. The unexpected hit on it’s Samsung Galaxy S series further put a strain to it’s production line to meed the growing demand. In order to avoid shortage, HTC has opt to use Sony’s SLCD screen which is no less impressive but still second in term of popularity to AMOLED technology in my opinion. SLCD is the latest generation of LCD technology that offers improved performance from earlier LCD panels including approximately five times better power management. SLCDs also offer an enhanced viewing experience with wider viewing angles that are enabled by Sony’s new VSPECⅢ™ technology.

Nexus One and HTC Evo Hacked To Run Ubuntu

Android enthusiast out there has successfully hacked their device and install Ubuntu on Nexus one and HTC Evo 4G in this week alone. The folk at nexusonehacks.net and htcevohacks.com which is run by the same brilliant guy has achieved this feat and making it looks pretty easy. The end result is neat and awesome. If only if I have this device, I would try for the same, but sadly HTC Magic that I own is too slow to run this stuff, just my guess.

Rooted phone is the main perquisite  to get this stuff running, in case you’re interested to do so at home. The instruction as well well as videos to install Ubuntu has been posted in respective site, with I have linked below, so enjoy! Based on the result, it looks like Ubuntu is running slightly faster in Nexus one than HTC Evo, but the result may vary.
