Motorola Defy is the latest addition to the growing list of Motorola’s Android smartphone model in Malaysia, though some may still wished that it is Droid series that making it’s official appearance here. Officially released in Malaysia this evening, Motorola Defy is the fist rugged smartphone running on Android available in Malaysia, if I recall it correctly.  The stellar feature is the scratch proof display screen thanks to Corning Gorilla glass, water resistant and dust proof.

But put aside the rugged features, Motorola Defy itself is pretty gorgeous phone. You may mistakenly thought this is HTC phone at a glance. The size, dimension and button are pretty close to what HTC smartphone used to be. Or does all phones looks the same lately?

There are long list of spec, but to cut it short, this phone comes with 3.7 inch screen size with 480×854 resolution, 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 800MHz TI OMAP3610 core processor, 512 RAM and 2GB internal storage which I think is too small even for smartphone nowadays. And sadly, it still running on Android 2.1.

Motorola Defy will available before Christmas although no specific date given. Recommeded retail price is RM1599 but it will available that Maxis for RM999 with plan.

Brightstar, an official distributor of Motorola smartphone in Malaysia,  is set to unveil new Motorola Android smartphone on 15th December in KL city. You might want to know which model it is, which I, myself has no idea as well. The only hint is, the smartphone has Corning Gorilla Glass display, which AFAIK is available on all Motorola Droid series smartphone. But of all Motorola Android smartphone released recently, Droid 2, Droid X (CDMA only) and Droid Pro are the only model I believe could pose serious threat to other brand in this market.

The only complaint is, the smartphone is pretty late to be launched here now, when it was launched couple of months back in the US as well other region. By this time, grey importers as well as other Android smartphone model has reaped the benefit from the lack of official distributorship of this smartphone here, in our shores. 2 more Android smartphones hit our shores recently, through Maxis. The 2 phones are Motorola Charm and Motorola Flipout, and guess what, I never heard of it before. Forgive my ignorance to these phones, but it is really not the type of phone that I love to have.

Unlike previous Android smartphone available at Maxis, this time both phones equipped with physical qwerty keypad, and perhaps meant for business or ex-Blackberry user who would want to use Android but prefer qwerty keyboard. The phone kinda bulky and looks square.

In term of the design, both phones look identical with the only big difference is on the keypad which can be slide in and out on Motorola Flipout. Each run on Android 2.1 with 3MP camera and 2.8 inch tft touch screen, yeah you heard it right, touch screen. Motorola Charm and Motorola are priced from RM649 and RM799 each respectively for 2 years contract.

It’s another Android smartphone available in Maxis beginning yesterday. The new addition to Maxis Android smartphone line up is Motorola Backflip with price from RM888 for 2 years contract. But that’s all because I feel little bit odd. I can’t tell why Maxis decide to offer this phone, as this is quite outdated Android phone with only Android 1.5 OS. But who am I to complain right. But considering the low price for capacitive touch screen with qwerty keyboard, it might be a bargain for some.

Motorola has unveiled the new Milestone 2 last week, a clear successor to the first generation Motorola Milestone . Milestone 2 is the re-badge of Verizon’s Droid 2 smartphone in the US that running on CDMA. If you already know Droid 2, it is pretty much the same smartphone externally and internally, except the network stuff, GSM vs CDMA.

Milestone 2 is going to be shipped with Android 2.2, so upgrade shouldn’t be a concern here. Motoblur is now the default UI enhancement, and that’s  includes Milestone 2.  The same 1Ghz OMCA SOC processor is still there along with 512MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera and 8GB of internal storage. Adobe Flash is already installed, so this is another Android’s flash ready smartphone (be aware that some test report Flash perform badly).

One feature that Droid 2 user will envy is the inclusion of 3G mobile hotspot in Milestone 2 which able to connect up to 5 WiFi enabled devices. Milestone 2 will available in Europe beginning Q4 2010. No word when it will available in Asia. More Milestone spec is below.
