In Malaysia and other South East Asean countries, Acer is very well known, as among the largest notebook seller. Their notebook can be found in almost computer shop even in a small town in Malaysia. It is odd seeing Dell partnering Nokia to sell Nokia mobile phone when rumors regarding their upcoming smarphone is spreading all over the net.

The partnership with Nokia will only selling unlocked version of their mobile phone on the US market, which usually offer discounted phone that locked to that particular carrier only. The Dell+Nokia online store has limited model available at the moment including E71 and N96.

When iPhone was released with only AT&T as the sole carrier, lots of effort has been done to unlocked it, to be able to used with any carrier. Craziness against iPhone can be understandable due to the fact that it is Apple product with proven quality, well supported and application-rich.

Although Nokia is not iPhone, but clearly there are peoples who want to break-free from carrier-locked phone. This is what has positioned this partnership into the market. It still early to see how long could this lasted, since US market is highly competitive with the new smarphone/phone flooding the market continuously.

The partnership could be totally for business means. But few questions remain. Does Dell sought Nokia assistant to develop its smartphone? Or probably this is the sign that Dell smartphone will not be around soon?
