I still remember when I carry my first Android smartphone, HTC Magic and my friend start asking, what it is running on. “Android” I answer. “What? Is this the Google OS” they replied. I nod my head, sort of. That is end of last year where little known Android at that time is known more as Google’s operating system. Fast forward to this year, Android need little or no introduction. It grows impressively over the years, with the phones sold everywhere, in retail tores, online and even hypermarket!
The wide adoption of Android smartphone in Malaysia is particularly attributed by telcos and the smartphone’s local distributor who aggressively marketed this phone to users. Maxis stand out from the rest with the most Android smartphone in offer. They have 5 Android smartphone models, although they do have more before, but pull some of them out due to weak demand. Celcom, who pioneering Android smartphone with HTC Magic, seems stagnant, no new product, basically nothing. It is unclear what is Celcom strategy toward Android.
Digi on the other hand, being new player has priced the only Android smartphone they have, HTC Legend aggressively. They halved the retail price with 2 years contract. With upcoming HTC Aria due in September, I expect similar strategy to be deployed here to woo more users.
I’ve listed down Android smartphone available with contract from telco. On top of these models, there are more model available in market from retailer such as Motorola Milestone, Milestone XT, Acer Liquid series, SCL Mi300 and etc. Hit the source link at the end of this post to visit each telco.

Apparently, Maxis is not releasing only 1 new Android smartphone, but 2 model actually. As yesterday post is sourcing the info from HTC Malaysia, so its focus is on their Android smartphone only. So HTC Wildwire as most already know together with Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini are 2 new Android smartphone introduced by Maxis yesterday. The phone price can be viewed above, which comes with data and voice package with contract. If you notice, Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy (not Galaxy S), HTC Legend no longer available. It is either the smartphone is out of stock or having weak demand from users.
Beginning today until 17th August, Maxis is holding roadshow in KLCC with quite special offer. Well, special in the sense that it will only available there, that’s what they telling us. First is the HTC Wildfire, wildly popular and affordable Android phone that you can get buy from RM549 with voice and data plan for 2 years contract. Each buyer will get free car kit for that.
Secondly, HTC Desire is now offered with 2 years contract, bring the price down to RM1349 from usual RM1499 for 1 year contract. I know what’s in your mind, freebies, yes, there is free case available for that purchase. All these price are offered with voice and data plan, so unless you prefer to stay without contract, you can read and forget this post. Hit the source link at the end of this post to view the promotion images.

Not my word, but this is what Maxis emailing everyone who has registered for iPhone 4 update. The terms used ‘very soon’ , is very tempting and signaling that iPhone 4 is very close to hit our shores.. , just a matter of time.. Is this for real?? I’ve no idea. On the iPhone 4 roadmap release, there is 1 batch of countries to receive iPhone 4 by end of August, well, probably Malaysia is one of them. Here is the email.
“Dear Sir/Madam,
We would like to thank you for registering your interest in the new iPhone 4, which will be arriving in Maxis stores very soon. Until then, we want to make sure that you stay up-to-date on this new Apple smartphone.
With that in mind, here is a quick look at some of the revolutionary features that will change the way you use the iPhone forever.

If you’d like to know more about any of the above features, click here to watch the official iPhone 4 video.
Sound good to you? There’s more where that came from. Stay tuned to your email inbox for more news and updates as we prepare for the launch of the iPhone 4.”

I wrote before about the notebook with broadband package available in the Malaysian market. As you know, our market is lack of such product, and even Maxis a that point of time, no longer has any product in that category. Apparently, Maxis has come out with new notebook bundle with broadband package, now with Thinkpad X100e. Let’s forget about the spec that you can get all over the net, so we’ll talk more about the package. The notebook itself is priced at RM1,632 cash. You can also opt for RM68 x 24 months or RM136 x 12 months, depend on your budget. It comes with free modem, 4 months free of Maxis Broadband with 1GB data cap. The broadband package can be extended for RM38 per month onward, and.. that’s all. While the notebook itself is pretty much a low entry model, but it is more sufficient to complete your regular task.
