The saga between Techcrunch’s Mike Arrington with Fusion Garage on CrunchPad, which is now known as Joojoo, apparently doesn’t stop Fusion Garage from pushing the tablet to mass production. Yesterday, Fusion Garage struck the deal with CSL Group (if you’re Malaysian, I’m pretty sure you have heard their brand before) to invest and manufacture JooJoo tablet. In return CSL Group will receive small percentage of income from the tablet sold all over the world.
The deal is significant for both companies in this very competitive market when major computer manufactures will soon jumping to this segment as well. For Fusion Garage, this is ending the speculation whether the Joojoo will actually going to mass production. It also realize their (and Mr Arrington as well) vision to have portable device with competitive price (initially targeted below $300) purely for greater web browsing experience.
For CSL Group, the decision can be seen as killing the bird with one stone. Looking back at the attention that the world has on Joojoo with coverage on renown blogs such as Engadget, Wired and Gizmodo, the deal has giving them free publicity about their company.
The most important part is the exposure to the world of technology behind the tablet. CSL Group only manufacture netbook so far, but now with Joojoo, they will have an additional product on their portpolio, a tablet, next gen product that everybody is taking nowadays.
For both companies, if Joojoo destined to be super hit gadget, multi millions profit will surely boost their image and earning, and probably we will see Joojoo 2nd gen and onward.
The success of this partnership will be tested when Joojoo’s first mass produced tablet come out by end February. The price is going to be determine success factor, especially Apple iPad has set the bar when it’s cheapest iPad priced at $499, same as Joojoo . Other than that, the quality, usability and support that Joojoo and CSL going to offer or from their partners will be crucial especially the main market is going to be the US.
The table is now open for pre-order from the US only at the moment and will be shipped in 8-10 weeks
