Apple Peel 520 – Case that turn iPod Touch to iPhone

No, the case won’t magically turn iPod Touch to iPhone, but it gives the single greatest function that iPod is missing compared to iPhone; the ability to make/receive a phone call and texting/SMS messages.  Apple Peel 520, a product of one Chinese company is the casing that do all this ‘magic’, try filling the gap that iPod owners would love to have.

As extraordinary casing tasked to turn iPod Touch to iPhone, surely it does everything that have other case doesn’t have. So it has simcard slot with Infineon baseband processor-powered cell phone printed circuit board, additional 800mAh battery, vibration motor and speaker among others.

That’s the hardware part. For software part, it need jailbroken iPod Touch to get working as it require 2 application called Yosion and YsSMS to be installed that will taking care of make/receive phone call and texting/sms. As this casing is still in prototype stage all menus are in Chinese but the English version should available as well later I believe.

The prototype is not without problem though, but it should get fixed sooner or later. The price is USD59; not that cheap, but comparing the cost of getting iPhone (contract or without contract), it still way cheaper to get iPod plus Apple Peel 520.

Unboxing Ipod Touch – For Luqman

The collection of learning and education apps for our son has grown bigger and bigger, and so does his interest towards iPhone. We decided that it is time for him to have iPod Touch to store all those apps, although he is still 2 years plus.

Considering his age, we go for the cheapest iPod Touch with 8Gb in size.  Machines, one of the Apple reseller in Malaysia which is currently on promotion offering free casing for any purchase of iPod Touch, becomes our choice. The free casing from CAPDASE brand comes with silicon casing, iPod pouch, screen protector and iPod stand.

iPod Touch price cut and new iPod Nano with camera

So the most anticipated event is now over. I bet you have heard the rumors about what Apple is going to release on that date.  To me, the main highlight during Apple’s event yesterday are iPod Touch and new iPod Nano. Ipod touch receive significant price cut, while new iPod Nano introduced with new built-in camera,FM radio and pedometer.

To most users disappointment, the updated iPod Touch does not get camera of GPS as the rumors say. But you know, rumors is still rumors, not everything is going to happen, right?

So what’s the new deal for us on Apple Online Store Malaysian?

New competitive price – Now starting from RM779 compared to RM949 for 8GB. That is 18% discount! No more 16GB iPod Touch, but instead of that, there is new 64GB iPod Touch in store.

In the countries where iPhone does not available officially such as Malaysia, this might be  just another solution for iPhone/Ipod Touch lover wannabe.

Jajah announce, they’re developing a new application, that will allow users to turn their iPod Touch into an iPhone.  The application which run on WIFI connection to make a phone call or sending SMS, is using Voice-over-IP (VOIP) technology. Therefore, it does not require any sim card or carrier to work. The call rate is also said to be 98% cheaper than the mormal call and possibly free on certain cases.

Beside a basic call and SMS function, Jajah has a bigger plan for this application where they aim to market it as an application suite, which includus such the billing, call management system and etc to interested partner such as telcos. I’m quite interested if there will be local telcos company willing to bring this in application suite, although it is very unlikey judging to their respond againts iPhone.

VOIP is nothing new in this country with company such as Redtone pioneering this new generation of technoly few year back. Over to desktop there is Skype, a hugely popular VOIP desktop client that utilize similar technology to make a phone call. In fact there are Skype Phone as well.

If this application become reality soon, Ipod touch has an advantage over other services due to the popularity that iPod Touch gained so far. It could be another instant hit provided the application run smoothly! Before this,

Jajah has actually developed application for Iphone, that promised cheaper rate call for iPhone user.

Ipod Touch price started from RM949 on the Apple online store, which still lower than the price of used iPhone 2G set in Malaysia. Could this application possibly bring more people to  iPod Touch? For now, lets wait and see.

Ipod Touch (late) hands on

Forgive my excitement with the iPod Touch. I know it is a very very late one icon sad Ipod Touch (late) hands on

I just had hands on with the iPod Touch. IPod known as a very successful portable music players. But beside that, other functions are as great as at.

I don’t think you need an introduction to its physical looks of specification. This is merely iPod Touch experience in my personal view, not as an avid music listener.

2 things that really impress me are the touch screen and the internet browsing experience. The touch screen works like charm. It slide and scroll smoothly. The screen is also very responsive even with a little touch. No lag at all.

My instant favorite is the internet web browsing. It is totally awesome. The screen is wide enough to provide greater view to the whole site. Its graphic display the sites as if it is viewed on normal web browser. It is fast too, compared to my old P990i.

Not really into the rest of other functions, but I manage to play few games that utilizing the accelerometer and the touch screen as its control. It bring the simple game to the new height and joyous, instead of the traditional ‘keypad-oriented’ game.

Btw, by default Blogjer.com is viewed in mobile version, if it is open on mobile web browser. Thanks to WordPress plugin that I use here.
