iOS 4: No Upgrade for iPhone 2G and iPod First Gen

iOS 4: No Upgrade for iPhone 2G and iPod First Gen

The picture is self-explanatory, so it is now confirm that iOS4 won’t support original iPhone 2G as well as iPod Touch first generation. I still own iPhone 2G so I guess it is time to move on to something better. Luqman’s iPod Touch is from the 2nd generation, so it still safe until now.

iVideoCamera : Video Recording App for iPhone 2G and 3G

4194856138 b902eb1022 o iVideoCamera : Video Recording App for iPhone 2G and 3G

It is not a secret that there is no video recording app for iPhone 2G and 3G in iPhone App Store, unless you jailbreak your iPhone and install CyCorder from Cydia. And that’s what most users who purchase  iPhone from grey market did with their iPhone. You know it’s kinda odd that phone with camera cannot record the video, right?

But good news gentlemen, because video recording app at is now available ‘officially’ at App Store with the release of iVideoCamera, although you have to fork out 99 cent to install it into your phone. It have received fairly criticism from blog-sphere particularly due to its poor video quality, low resolution and low frame rate per second. Nevertheless,  it’s better to have it than never, if you’re not willing to jailbreak your iPhone.

Bonus point as stated in the app description, you can save and share your photos via social media website such as Facebook, Youtube and etc. Head to App Store from iPhone to install it.

iPhone 3G white photo shots

iPhone 3G looks better in white color, really! For the record this is belong to my brother in law, from whom I bought my iPhone 2G.

This is Singtel fully unlocked set, bought from Lowyat.net forum for 2.8k. Honestly, that’s way too expensive for mobile phone, I better go for new Macbook white if I have such extra penny to spend.

Another rumor on which telco will bring iPhone to Malaysian market just resurfaced. Excited??

Iphone Alternative – Ipod Touch run with Jajah application

jajah Iphone Alternative Ipod Touch run with Jajah application

In the countries where iPhone does not available officially such as Malaysia, this might be  just another solution for iPhone/Ipod Touch lover wannabe.

Jajah announce, they’re developing a new application, that will allow users to turn their iPod Touch into an iPhone.  The application which run on WIFI connection to make a phone call or sending SMS, is using Voice-over-IP (VOIP) technology. Therefore, it does not require any sim card or carrier to work. The call rate is also said to be 98% cheaper than the mormal call and possibly free on certain cases.

Beside a basic call and SMS function, Jajah has a bigger plan for this application where they aim to market it as an application suite, which includus such the billing, call management system and etc to interested partner such as telcos. I’m quite interested if there will be local telcos company willing to bring this in application suite, although it is very unlikey judging to their respond againts iPhone.

VOIP is nothing new in this country with company such as Redtone pioneering this new generation of technoly few year back. Over to desktop there is Skype, a hugely popular VOIP desktop client that utilize similar technology to make a phone call. In fact there are Skype Phone as well.

If this application become reality soon, Ipod touch has an advantage over other services due to the popularity that iPod Touch gained so far. It could be another instant hit provided the application run smoothly! Before this,

Jajah has actually developed application for Iphone, that promised cheaper rate call for iPhone user.

Ipod Touch price started from RM949 on the Apple online store, which still lower than the price of used iPhone 2G set in Malaysia. Could this application possibly bring more people to  iPod Touch? For now, lets wait and see.

Unboxing Apple Iphone

Not really an ‘unboxing’ since this is a used Apple Iphone 2G 8 GB set (UK set) . Initially I plan to go for legally-unlocked iPhone 3G from Vodafone New Zealand, but the deal collapsed at the very end, once the phone reach here due to certain issues.

First I did is to upgrade the firmware. This phone is UK set, so when the firmware upgraded to 2.2, the phone was locked again. With my friend assistant, surprisingly the unlocking process is very simple and it took less than  20 minutes to complete.

I can’t believe when certain shops in Plaza Lowyat or Lelong/Ebay seller offer this service in the range of RM80 – 150. The software and tutorial cost only USD20, so that is indeed very easy money!!

In term of GUI, I’m quite familiar with iPod Touch, so using iPhone is no different than it . It is slightly heavier than iPod Touch. Beside the iPhone applications,  I admire the great calls quality, but the battery life is quite disappointment. If it is use extensively, the battery will dried up in a day.  Stand by mode will lasted for 2 days for this 1.5 years old phone.

From now on, I’ll blog about nice iPhone applications occasionally.

Some shots taken this morning.
