Find My iPhone Now Available Free On iOS 4.2 Devices

The release of iOS 4.2 not only comes with a lot of feature especially to iPad, but it comes with quite generous gift as well. The ‘gift’ one of the feature in Mobile Me, Find My iPhone, which let you to track the location of Apple device under your Apple account. Not to get confused, Mobile Me is paid service, whereas Find My iPhone which is part of Mobile Me is now available free of charge to all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch running only on iOS 4.2.

To enable Find My iPhone in your iOS device, open up the Settings , tap on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars,” follow by Add Account. From the list of available account, tap on MobileMe.  Enter your Apple id (iTunes account) and password when prompted, save and finally enable the setting. That’s all. You’re ready to go

To track your iOS devices, you can either install Find My iPhone app that available from App Store, or login through mobile me website at www.me.com.

The only caveat is, it is not really working well. From my earlier testing, it doesn’t seems working both on my iPad and iPhone 3GS, although wifi and location service is already enabled. Testing sending message to the target device took about 5 hours to reach the target device as well. Mobile Me will notify you through email when your message accepted by target device. So does it works on your iOS devices?
