Android 2.1 OS upgrade for HTC Magic, Only At Rogers

HTC Magic Android 2.1 OS upgrade for HTC Magic, Only At Rogers

HTC Magic users with Rogers (one of telco in Canada) might be the luckiest HTC Magic user ever. That’s simply because their smartphone will receive official Android 2.1 OS upgrade, most likely by end of August. That’s confirmed by forumer Rogersmary in Androidforum which is one of the the Canadian’s company PR team. The whole process to get the upgrade seems quite complicated. Rogers has to go back and forth to HTC for the OS development and testing, and it still required approval from Google, the Android godfather. Nevertheless, it is still way better than the rest of regular HTC Magic users on the rest of the world who still running on Android 1.6.

So you and I knows that CyanogenMod 6 aka CM6 still have couple of issue pending with regard to HTC Magic, Dream and G1 couple of weeks ago . Trust me, this folks is working round the clock to get the issue resolved and good news that CyanogenMod 6 RC1 is now available to be  downloaded. Nexus One and Desire users has been enjoying this ROM since few weeks back, it is now the older phone turn to enjoy Froyo aka Android 2.2. As it is the very early stage of CM6, do not always expect the smooth ride. Before you go further, take time to read the lengthy discussion at XDA-Developer to get an idea of what is working and what is not.

CyanogenMod 6 With Froyo Will Ready Soon, Cheers To HTC Magic Users

cyanogenmode CyanogenMod 6 With Froyo Will Ready Soon, Cheers To HTC Magic Users

The HTC Magic aka Sapphire that I use for 6 months now, is now running on CyanogenMod 5.0.7, a cooked Android 2.1 ROM, replacing the original OS Android 1.5 with HTC Sense. The CyanogenMod ROM is trouble free ROM, run almost perfectly with just couple of screen freeze during that period. But when Froyo comes in, it is normal as human that you tend to want something newer and better, but you gotta wait because HTC doesn’t care about that.

CynogenMod is again the lifeline for Android users especially those that using the older model. So If you’re like me, still using this old model phone, you gonna love this news. The Cyanogen 6 which carry cooked Android 2.2 aka Froyo is almost ready! The newer phone should have no problem running the cooked ROM.

But the greatest of all at least to me is, the fact that it is also almost 100% working on HTC Magic/Sapphire model except 1 issue, that’s quite technical to many. I put trust the issue could be rectified pretty soon, by ever hardworking Android dev out there. It is just matter of time before the ROM would be released. So you see here, except probably for better processor, better screen, everything else available on new Android OS could also be ported to older phone, well, that’s one of many reason I stay with HTC Magic. The next Android phone I will buy probably Nexus One, but not now.

HTC Magic Update To Android Froyo Is Just a Dream?

HTC Magic Update To Android Froyo Is Just a Dream?

MyTouch 3G users in the US,  or known more here as HTC Magic has at least kind word from T-Mobile that their smartphone too will receive update to Froyo sometime in future. Although that’s just statement, at least they have something to dream off. Over to this side of the world, HTC Magic users including myself basically still in the dark if our smartphone too will receive update.

HTC is a great company, but they seems to concentrate more on releasing tonnes of new, cool and great Android phones. At the same time they’re ignoring the users who brave themselves to be among the earliest buyer of HTC’s Android smartphones.

That’s the thing that kinda piss me off sometime and I believe shared by many user as well. You know, not everyone willing to root and flash cooked ROM to their smartphone. It will void the warranty as well.  To HTC or SIS,  if you read this, could you please tell me when??
