Google Docs goes desktop

It seems like Google Doc and Google Desktop team never stop working even in the eve of long holiday this coming week. Or probably this is the last release this year?

To avid Google Doc users, this is great news for you. Google Doc is now available on your desktop via Google Desktop.

We’re expecting opening and creating document can be done on the gadget itself, but it actually still relying on web browser to do that.

Via the gadget, beside opening & creating document, you can only do documents search and uploading single document at one time.Pretty impressive, although I’m expecting more than this.

What’s next??

Where is Google??

2008 is almost end with only few days left. But 1 question remain unanswered.

For local bloggers or those on IT industry are surely remember, once a breaking news about Google who in talk with MDEC (Gov IT arm) to setup office or data center in Malaysia.

Nothing heard afterwards. Anyone know what is the progress??

With global eonomy crisis and with Google themselves laying offs employess , it could be the plan has been scrapped, regardless how best MDEC offer is.

Still, I hope to get it materialized..

Turning emails to Google Doc is a breeze now

Of all Gmail Labs features introduce recently, I feel this is the most useful one.No more copy and paste required, but with a single click on ‘Create a document‘ shown below, your email turns to Google Doc automatically & nicely formatted too.

As usual you have to enable this feature via ‘Setting’ – ‘Gmail Lab’ – click on enable radio button next to ‘Create a Document‘.

Testing it on SearchEngineCap and PBBank email, it were formatted nicely.

Btw, do you think this will encourage plagiarism?

Google Zeitgeist – Top Queries 2008

zeitgeist 2008 Google Zeitgeist Top Queries 2008

The most wanted list from Google is out today. Google Zeitgeist (having hard time to pronounce it), listing what’s popular, trend, top query or top search for the period of 2008. So here they are…

Fastest Rising (Global)

  1. sarah palin
  2. beijing 2008
  3. facebook login
  4. tuenti
  5. heath ledger
  6. obama
  7. nasza klasa
  8. wer kennt wen
  9. euro 2008
  10. jonas brothers

I know you’re puzzled with some of the phrases here, which you never came across before, so Google it la.

Apart from global list, there are also Google Zeitgeist grouped regionally. As usual, I took a peak of what’s hot in my country, Malaysia.

Malaysia – Generally, Malaysians tend to search on political related news and updates, so Google Zeitgeist is grouped by search of that criteria, mostly. Some that caught my attention:

Anwar Ibrahim topping the local  celebrities list, which I believe you all can guess why. Apparently, Chua Soi Lek has got more queries than our past prime minister, Dr Mahathir.

Perodua Nautica – Given the small numbers of this vehicle on the roads, it is quite surprising to see it topping the list. Perhaps people rarely see this car and are curious how it does look like, or people are anticipating Nautica will be another hit from Perodua when it is proven to be otherwise.

Terengganu is the top local tourist destinations in Malaysia. Yeah, I’m blogging from there, although the real purpose is not for leisure.

Gmail SMS/text messaging is back – hoping for greater service

Apparently Google has cleared up the mess from the troubled SMS/text messaging service that they rolled out few weeks ago

It is back now, and promise a lot more stability & reliability. No change in term of usability or functionality except perhaps on the quality of service.

Read it carefully, only US phone number can receive the SMS/text messages, but sending text messaging/SMS can be done by anyone regardless where they are, as long the the receiver phone number is US phone number.

SMS receiver can reply back, which the message will then appear on the Google Chat window. It works like chat except the another participant is on mobile phone. Head to Gmail Blog for full story including usage, bill, and how the SMS from Google Chat looks like.
