Use Gmail Contacts with Google Sync to backup your contacts

I just discovered Google Contacts recently, its pretty cool, remind me of Yahoo Profile, but this is from the big G though. Google Contacts is the standalone Google contact book, that store the contact information from Gmail.

Although it has slightly different looks, Google Contacts has exactly same contents and functionality as the contact book in Gmail. Don’t expect that, it is more powerful than the default Google contact book in Gmail. But its existence on its own URL, hint that probably, Google has something on their mind about Google Contacts in future. Who knows??

What else can you do with Google Contacts aka Gmail contacts?

Nothing, unless you using it together with Google Sync. icon wink Use Gmail Contacts with Google Sync to backup your contacts

I’ve backup all my contacts information on my mobile phone to Google Contacts using Google Sync. On my previous post, I write how Google Sync allows you to sync your contact information and calender between your mobile phone and Google services seamlessly. Your contact and calendar is now keep on the internet@cloud, which theoretically safer than keeping it on the device.

As it synchronized by its own , when there are changes on either side,  both side will still has similar information at the end of the day. Why needs telco’s paid services to backup your sim card, if you can doing this for free, correct?

It doesn’t really matter if this is actually Microsoft technology (Microsoft Exchange) , that Google licensing it. In fact,  they should collaborating more, in joint-effort to made the internet a better place for everyone.

The real beauty here is how Google Sync, unveiled yesterday by Google, able to make our life easier. It works by synchronizing your Google Calendar and GMail Contact (for the time being) to iPhone and Windows Mobile phones.

Google Sync is a two-way service, which means you can make any changes on your phone or in your Google Account. At the end of the day, both will have similar data regardless where the changes made before.

The setup is pretty straight forward. Choose your devices and follow the instruction carefully. It took me less than 5 mins to get its working.
