Boomerang : Browser Addon To Schedule Sending and Receiving Emails

boomerang addon Boomerang : Browser Addon To Schedule Sending and Receiving Emails

Imagine if you can schedule sending your email such as birthday wishes, ticket booking and etc? Or schedule when you want the email you have received to appears again when you need it. Boomerang has translated this cool idea to browser addon for Firefox and Chrome that works only in Gmail at the moment.

After you have installed the browser addon, in Gmail compose email page, there is new ‘Send Later’ button appear right beside the send button, where you can specify when you want the email to be sent. As for the received emails, ‘Receive Later’ button will appear on top of the email that you opened. While receive later might no really important, at least to me, ‘Send Later’ is quite interesting feature that I wish available in Gmail lab as well.

The browser addon is still in development stage, but if you want to try it out, download it from here and enter the invite code b4gtweet . More on the features are demonstrated in video below.

Receiving Some Else Email address? That’s Because Gmail Doesn’t Recognize Dots As Characters

gmail Receiving Some Else Email address? Thats Because Gmail Doesnt Recognize Dots As Characters

I have been copied in one lengthy email last week from unknown sender. I thought it is spam email, so I waste no time flagging it as spam. But  I found out when I check the spam folder later, other recipients in the email start replying to each other and it become quite long threaded email. So what’s going on??Why am I copied in this email??

It appears that the email was incorrectly addressed to me. The reason is the dots (.) in the email address.

gmail dots Receiving Some Else Email address? Thats Because Gmail Doesnt Recognize Dots As Characters

Apparently Gmail doesn’t recognized dots as character in your email address. It’s quite funny considering that dots is widely used in corporate email address. Here is Gmail explanation on this when I click the ‘learn more’ button.

Gmail doesn’t recognize dots as characters within usernames, you can add or remove the dots from a Gmail address without changing the actual destination address; they’ll all go to your inbox, and only yours. In short:

  • homerjsimpson@gmail.com = hom.er.j.sim.ps.on@gmail.com
  • homerjsimpson@gmail.com = HOMERJSIMPSON@gmail.com
  • homerjsimpson@gmail.com = Homer.J.Simpson@gmail.com

BIS 3.0 Will Add 2 Way Email Status Sync?

The lack of 2 ways email status sync for email is quite disappointing after sometime . At the moment, only actions ( such as read, sent emails) from Blackberry device will sync toward the web based email (eg Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail), but not the other way round.

That’s pretty annoying if you have read hundreds of email from other email program (web browser, Gmail app in Andoird, iPhone), but have to  mark it as already read ,manually in Blackberry, just for example.

Some good news is, the rumors about upcoming BIS 3.0 is said to overcome this issue. But apparently that’s only for Gmail plugin, so I guess other email have to stick with 1 way sync until.. I have no idea when.

The original source where this info first leaked, has uploaded document BIS 3.0 which apparently has been taken down.

I certainly hope this is for real!

Gmail lab plugin to helps identify the right email recipients

You sure don’t want to miss this 2 useful ‘Bob’ Gmail lab plugin. It’s there to assist you selecting the accurate email recipients list whenever you’re composing an email.

Don’t forget BobOnce you pick some email recipients, Gmail suggests more people you might want to include based on the groups of people you email most often. – Unlike Outlook where we can create distribution list to include the list of email address, Gmail does not have that feature. You tend to memorize the email address, or list down it somewhere else. This is where this lab came in handy, it will remind you to include the list of people that met condition described above, in case you missed them.

Got the wrong Bob?Doh, have you ever addressed an email too quickly, and included Bob (your boss) instead of Bob (your friend) by accident? If you’re emailing more than two people at once, Gmail will check if you meant to include Bob Smith rather than Bob Jones based on the groups of people you email most often. – I bet you have experienced this before,  I just wish Outlook to have this feature as well!
