You have seen the early concept of Firefox new tab page and probably have tested it. The folks at Firefox has made more modification including this one last week. The initial concept was completely overhauled based on the user feedback. That’s the beauty of Firefox where communities can participate in building the web browser for peoples.
There are couple of concepts release 2 weeks ago. This is my personal favorite. The tab page divided to 3 main columns with each column representing its own functionality. The left column divided to another 2 sections, which represent another different function, to check email and the last keyword searched.
This is the latest concept announced last week. I’m not designer in any kind of platform, but I still prefer thumbnail over the favicon for the frequently visited sites. It looks simpler than the first one.
So which one do you prefer? Or have you tested any beta version? Head to Mozilla Lab to find out more about the new tab concept.
I’m sure many Firefox users will love this add-ons, Reload Tab On Double-Click. Once installed, just point your mouse to any Firefox tab, and double-click it to reload the tab page.
Extremely useful to reload a lot of tab pages almost simultaneously without needing to go to each tab pages and press F5 key on reload button to reload it.
One of the simplest add-ons I ever seen. Click here to install.
Inquisitor is browser add-ons that help you to perform better search from the browser’s search box. It will suggest the keywords as you type as well as websites you have visited before. You might already seen this before on other search engine’s search box, except that Inquisitor presenting it, in more interesting ways with graphic and color.
Cool thing about Inquisor is, it is not search engine-specific, although it is under Yahoo service. The default search engine is Yahoo, but you can switch to other search engine or add other search engines from the option menu. You can also customise the number of results and suggestions to show up.
Inquisitor is available for Safari, Firefox and IE and iPhone (only for the US). Get the add-ons here.
The new concept of Firefox’s new tab page is still on beta stage, and only available on future Firefox release version 3.5. If you can’t wait for the new tab page style to come, give Foxtab a try.
Foxtab is Firefox add-on that let you turn the blank new tab, to something more interactive. It won’t appear automatically when the new tab page opened, but you have to open it manually from the shortcut menu, available on the left side of the URL bar. That means, it can be opened on top of other tab too, including tab page that displys other web page too.
But unlike other browser’s new tab page that display the recent or most frequently visited websites, Foxtab only shows the websites currently opened. Quite disappointing, since what’s the point of showing the thumbnail of the sites already opened?
Graphical wise, Foxtab is quite impressive. It has 5 navigation layout style including Safari’s new tab page style looks alike and Vista’s Alt-Tab thumbnail preview style.
