Facebook is indeed very popular, but how many of us really go through their terms of use before signing up, let alone aware of the change and aware of it.
Yep, Facebook just update their term of use few days ago. You can go though it here. I believe this has been there since beginning.
Registration; Account Security
When you register for and use the Facebook Service, you will be asked to provide information about yourself (”User Data”). Your User Data must be accurate and current at all times.
Coincidentally, couple of days ago, I came across an email about ‘the dark side of Facebook’ which actually originated from here (it is in Malay). Beside the fun and addiction Facebook has offered, this interesting post, provide another side of Facebook, who are behind it, who use the data, who funded it, what’s Facebook other purpose are and etc. It is pretty creepy knowing this, how our personal info, photos being jeopadized without our acknowledgment provided if this is real.
So to conclude above terms, provide what the truth about you but restrict the info especially the crucial one. Same goes to the below terms where whatever your post such as status update, photos or links, keep in mind that Facebook can use this info without any restriction. Read ‘Does what happens in the Facebook stay in the Facebook?’ to get a better pictures.
Submissions
You acknowledge and agree that any questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, feedback or other information that you provide to Facebook (”Submissions”), are non-confidential and non-proprietary. Facebook will be entitled to the unrestricted use of any such Submission for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, without acknowledgment or compensation to you.
Beside terms of use above, other areas that should be given attention is such as Prohibited Conduct,User Content, Your Privacy Practices and Termination and Changes to the Facebook Service.
This set of rules is there to prevent Facebook and the users from any consequences that may arise due to any incidents.
You still can have fun, communicate, find your old friends, play games and etc in Facebook, but at the same time, please… be cautious. You’ll never know what is going on behind the scene.
Comments Box integrate Facebook Connect into your blog
Comments Box is the the first social widget for Facebook Connect unveiled recently. The name is self explanatory, where it works by allowing Facebook user to leave comments using Facebook ID on any blog that integrate this widget onto their blog, without the need to key in name, password and URL.
The first Facebook Connect widget that I install on my previous theme doesn’t last long. But since this is come from Facebook, I still give it a try. To install it, make sure you follow the steps outlined here closely. It require little technical skills, but I can guarantee you that the instruction is pretty straight forward. There are whole lot of other resources in their repository if you can’t get it work.
I can get it works in less than 10 mins. This is how its looks like after I signed in to my Facebook account. When I post some comments, it will appear right at the bottom of the comment box.
If you thick on the ‘Post comment to my Facebook profile‘ check box, the comments will appear on your Facebook profile as below.
The downside.
All comments are kept in Facebook and not in your blog. If you run Wordpress comments oriented plugins such as top commentators, recent comments or most comments, comments won’t be included and counted. It is not even appears on comments admin menu.
However, comments can still be accessed using Facebook’s API (anyone know how?), but that require extra works. I’m still looking how to integrate this widget nicely, of if I should let it there.
