Turning emails to Google Doc is a breeze now

Of all Gmail Labs features introduce recently, I feel this is the most useful one.No more copy and paste required, but with a single click on ‘Create a document‘ shown below, your email turns to Google Doc automatically & nicely formatted too.

As usual you have to enable this feature via ‘Setting’ – ‘Gmail Lab’ – click on enable radio button next to ‘Create a Document‘.

Testing it on SearchEngineCap and PBBank email, it were formatted nicely.

Btw, do you think this will encourage plagiarism?

4. Double click on “ThisOutLookSession”. It will open up a code pane.
5. Copy and Paste the following code in the right pane. (Code Pane)  and save it.

Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, Cancel As Boolean)
Dim strSubject As String
strSubject = Item.Subject
If Len(Trim(strSubject)) = 0 Then
Prompt$ = “Subject is Empty. Are you sure you want to send the Mail?”

gmail slow

I couldn’t tell if it happened only to me or sporadically, but this is the first time I encountered such a problem. I first noticed it only on my Gmail. But apparently, other Google services such as Google reader is experiencing the same.

There are quite numbers of post with regard to gmail being slow, but I couldn’t find any articles or post, posted on the day I see this issue. That means, Gmail slow is something that’s not new, especially after Gmail 2.0 upgrade.

I was out of town last weekend and bringing along ‘not trustworthy Maxis 3G’ with hope to check email on the move. But gmail loading gmail slowunfortunately, most places that I visit has only GPRS connection. So my attempt to open gmail stucked half way at the loading page. So when I was back to my house and when I want to open up my Gmail.. what the heck.. it is this slow, even on broadband internet bandwidth. Could it be that  Google is memorizing how fast the last internet speed that I use, and try to adjust accordingly? But,  even HTML version does not load at all.

As usual, before I went to do something further, I cleared out my Firefox’s cache, closed it and and retried but with no luck. I used another notebook but ending up the same. It couldn’t be my internet connection, since ‘other than Google’ applications and websites were running fine.

I attempted to do this for about 30 minutes, before I gave up. I’m tired. I closed my notebook and grabbed my mobile in my last attempt to access Gmail thorugh mobile using WiFi connection. Amazingly, it loads the email as fast as usual.

I still couldn’t figure out if this happens on certain account only or if there is something going on at Google back end system. Anyway, it’s up back and running fine as usual, so I hope I won’t encounter similar issue again.

If issue persists, the last resort is to visit their help pages.

ps: do you know that in German, Gmail is known as Google Mail

Xobni – Your outlook’s perfect companion

I bet you have heard of Xobni if you read tech websites such as Lifehacker or Cnet recently. In fact, I come to know Xobni from there as well. Xobni is Outlook plugin that completes your Outlook of course. In terms of compatibility, it works on XP and Vista for both Outlook 2003 and 2007.

The good thing about Xobni is, once installed, Xobni will appear in your Outlook left pane (compared to other desktop search functions such as Google desktop, which can search emails as well). However, you have an option to show or hide it. When you first install it, it will index your email. This is one time index, which indexes all emails available in your personal folder and inbox. Depending on how big or how many emails you have, it will take some time to complete.

Xobni is built with your contact profile in mind. This is where its strength lies. Each emails, contacts, meeting activities are tracked and gathered to build impressive statistic. It answers why Xobni is statistic-rich. Who is your most responsive email recipient? How many emails have you exchanged between you and any particular contact? What and how many documents have you exchanged between you and your contacts? Xobni can tell you this.

My most admired function in Xobni would be their search function. In my observation, it is much more faster than xobni logo Xobni Your outlooks perfect companion default outlook search. It will populate the result as you type in the search box. It searches people and email contents at the same time. In the search result, it shows to and from whom the email is, and the snapshot of the email content when you move your mouse over the email.

With all these cool search features, the search function is lacking a few important things. There is no filter to search by adding more parameters such date, size or location. The search pulls all emails.

Another thing is, If you keep your email on different folders, the search results can be opened, replied and forwarded, but it won’t tell you where this email was kept.

Apart from the search function, Xobni allows you to view the email in thread. Unlike outlook’s view by conversation function, you can control how long you want to view each emails in any thread, by utilizingxobni slide bar Xobni Your outlooks perfect companion the sliding bar.

1 thing that I never tested is the Xobni integration with Skype as mentioned by PCWorld. If you have Skype’s VoIP service on your PC, you can make a SkypeOut call with a quick tap of a phone number within a Xobni profile.

While I was satisfied with Xobni features so far, I’m experiencing slow performance intermittently, when I start my outlook and download emails (usually hundreds at 1 time). Perhaps it still depends on how your system performance as well.

Try Xobni and you’ll love it.
