.CO Domain Registration Opened Now

dot co domain .CO Domain Registration Opened Now

.Co domain is now made available for registration to all beginning yesterday. This domain is considered as good as .com domain which is widely used on the net. In Malaysia, the domain still no where to be found on my quick check on few main domain registersĀ  except Exabytes. But it ain’t cheap, prepared to fork out rm12o per year for this type of domain. But considering that this domain can create cool domain name like t.co which was purchased by Twitter earlier, many domain hunter will not reluctant to spend little bit in return for more lucrative deal later, who knows, right?

If you own any .COM and .NET domain name, please note that Verisign has increased the price of that domain beginning this July . As stated by NetKL (one of hosting company) the prices increase would beĀ  48 cents USD and 42 cents USD for .COM and .NET domain respectively. That’s translated to around RM1.65 in Malaysian currency.

It is small increase, but if you do have multiple domains under your name, it is suggested to renew all your domains now up to 10 years to enjoy existing fee before the price increase next month.

MYNIC domain registration increased despite of economy crisis

While US has liquor & games sales thrive during recession, we got at least something better. (Don’t feel offended’, just kidding =)). MYNIC statistic shows that .my ccTLD (country code top level domain) domain name registration is consistently increasing from month to month since Jan 2008. The highest increase happened on March 2008 when it increased by 3317 or 4.9%.

.com.my is the most categories registered ahead of .my followed by .net.my and .org.my.

On global level, .cn is the most ccTLD registered on the third quarter of 2008 ahead of .de and .uk which had long dominated the list. Surprisingly .us only ranked 9th although it is understandably the long internet domain dominating US is more favorable towards .com including domain hunters like most of us.

If there is a statistic showing how many domains registered for people from certain countries, we could have better visibility of how internet industry is progressing.

Despite global economic crisis, the statics shows the glimpse of the future of internet which is little impacted by it. Although the economy is predicted to be more severed on the beginning of 2009, the sign of what most people feared has started to be felt. It is interesting to see the MYNIC’s December statistic, whether it still has the positive momentum.

Internet is relatively new outside of the US whereby the internet market has matured. Countries particularly Malaysia has the taste of internet on early 90s and booming since then. So what triggers all this increase??

More internet users – More people has been introduced to internet via formal or informal education, peers and the entertainment industry especially online games and social media. Recent studies show that Malaysia is among the top 5 countries in Asia who has high internet penetration market. Over the time, users who initially spend their time on internet have been introduced to the fact that they can earn money online via multiple channel including websites.

Cheaper notebook & desktop – Thanks to competition and efficient manufacturing process, there are a lot of notebooks and desktops priced below RM2000. Not to mention netbook that has gained huge popularity recently.

Retrenchment & economy crisis – This caused the number of people unemployed to increase. These people have to find a new job that’s quite difficult to get, and at the same time turn to internet with hope to earn from there.

Internet Marketers – Undeniably these people is very important to internet. They are mastering the way to successful online marketing and make it available for people like above who are in need of it. There are those who are sincere to help, and those who are hunting for profits only.

Politicians – Yeah, more politicians setup self-hosted blog (not a blogspot or wordpress). Fear of ban perhaps.

There you go my cents.

Monetizing undeveloped domain with Adsense

adsense Monetizing undeveloped domain with Adsense

There is almost no limitation of creativity when it come to opportunity to generate money online, especially if they’re ‘BIGGER’ than anybody else.

At the end of 3rd quarter of 2008, there are 174 millions domains on the net. Of this number, 11.5 millions new domains registered for that quarter alone. Not all domains registered for setting up website purpose, big chunk of it kept for investment purpose or hold it just for future planning.

Good news to those that have lots of undeveloped domains, Google is now allowing such domains to display Adsense ads. So instead of 404 page or page not found message, there will be Adsense ads over there.

To check whether AdSense for domains has been enabled for your account, log in and visit your AdSense Setup tab.

But typical Google is, this is only rolled out to English-language publisher in North America at the moment. For publisher across other regions, you have to wait a little bit longer.
