First of foremost, this is not definitive guide, but merely some piece of information that I stumbled from internet. It may true at that point of time, but not now. Ok, so contract-less iPhone with warranty from local distributor is… probably preferred iPhone 4 to many user due to the local warranty tied to it. Ease of warranty claim and etc. Unfortunately it is not widely available, or perhaps it just not the time yet. Yes, you can get it from phone store at Lowyat plaza, The Mines and etc, but that’s is out of scope.
First source comes from the commentator at liewcf.com. 2 commentators point out that contract free iPhone 4 is available at Maxis Centre TTDI. It is called outright purchase and comes with prepaid package, which explain further by another commentator that it is actually iData 1, which is nowhere to be found in Maxis website last weekend.
“Checked out the iPhone 4 at the Maxis Centre in TTDI today – Maxis IS selling contract-free handsets (they call it outright purchase), but tied to a prepaid pack.
Am tempted to get the 16GB ..”
“Apparently the iData plan is the contract free one. I spoken to a Maxis rep about this. If you’ve checked the maxis website, you can only find iData 2 and 3. But not 1.
The iData1 is where you purchase the phone by cash or card at the orig price and maxis will offer you a rm30 (250mb) contract that you can terminate anytime after the 1st month.
why they do not put this up on their website? Well, they rather have us tied to a 1yr/2yr contract to suck us dry. Compared to purchasing it just like that. I think non-iPhone enthusiast will fall for traps like that. And I heard that YTL comms will be offering 4g connection service in the new future.”
Many thanks to both of them and LiewCF too
Second source is coming from Facebook. It is posted on Mac City facebook page, and I believe the comment below is pretty much self explanatory. The full message can be read here. But hang on guys, don’t rush to Mac City 1 Utama now as the stock is limited. Call them up before walk in to their store to avoid disappointment.
“Mac City Sdn Bhd Yes,Mac City allows customer purchase iphone4 and no necessary to sign up the contract .
September 27 at 10:54am”
And the last one, contract free iPhone from Digi. Not now, but next month according to article in The Star. Read the full story here. It is at the end of the post
“DiGi is reported to be offering non-contract iPhone 4 next month”
But no matter what, having it’s available from local Apple Online Store is perhaps the better idea, it can reach far more users nationwide. What’s stopping them from selling it there?
