After Microsoft, another online software store made it debut online. But this time, it is from the renowned PC maker, Dell Inc.  Dell Download Store is the latest attempt from Dell to diversify its income beside the core business, selling computers which the sales is hurt by the economy slowdown.

The now popular software without package concept is similar to what Microsoft had offered earlier. This allows users to purchase, download, install and reinstall the software directly to their machines. This concept is said to save approximately 10% of the overall cost which represent the packaging & shipping cost. 

Dell Download Store also make  easier for small and businesss  owner to manage volume software licensing requirements.

At the begining,  there are softwares from 12 publishers such as McAfee, Sonic/Roxio and Microsoft are available, although more publishers and softwares will be bring in gradually. Beside software, the store will carry out music, movie and game titles on a later stage.

For the time being, this stores is only open in the US, while France, Germany and UK are slated for this 20th January. Ultimately Dell aim to bring this service available worlwide.
