Unboxing Sony Cyber-Shot W180 Camera

IMG_5930

The hunt for simple camera with movie recording function ended up with Sony Cyber-Shot W180 , cost only RM499 from Sony Centre. The price is just for the camera set itself, without memory stick and camera pouch (add RM70 more to get those items). The same model in sale at Sonystyle is priced at RM699.

Sony Cyber-Shot W180 is one of the low end cameras in Cyber-Shot family. It is pretty much a basic camera with 10 mega-pixel resolution, 3 x zoom, SteadyShot, Smile Shutter and other basic functions you can find on almost point & shoot camera nowadays. Nothing really stand out, except that,  it is Sony Cyber-shot, which is a very admired brand camera model here in Malaysia.

Unlike the more expensive Cyber-Shot model, this model is not equipped with BIONZ, a standard image processor for Sony cameras. Expect the photo quality is below what BIONZ equipped camera can produce.

Along with the camera set are standard equipments such as charger, USB cable as well as A/V cable.

In terms of quality, the movie mode does not support HD recordings, where the image size is fixed at only at 320 X 240. However the still image mode can capture HD format 1920 x 1080.

As usual, more photos below.. using my old EOS1000D. Another reason why I love this camera is, it can fit into my pocket nicely.

No firework show last night at Putrajaya

We went out to Putrajaya lake last night with the intention to shoot fireworks show. We reached there about 45 mins to 12.00am, lots of cars have parked along the lake. Previously, I used to watch it only from my office building which happens to be just nearby.

So this is our first real shot with the new camera. Before that, we managed to have a quick online crash course on how to shoot fireworks. We brought along tripod since most tips suggest so and to set long exposure.

But our hope was crushed. There was no firework show unlike past years. Obviously everyone felt disappointed including us who have prepared earlier to take photos. We can see few other visitors who brought along tripod and DSLR were packing up immediately after 10 minutes over 12.00 am. Perhaps government has started tightening the budget to weather the economy crisis.

The outcome is terrible. First time taking night photos is not an easy task although theoretically is simple. Since I promised Topo to show some, here are some photos that I consider ‘best’ of the best (although it is otherwise). Don’t laugh ok.

Want something better??  Head to Uncle G. He got multiple times better photos than mine. I need more practice!

Our first DSLR camera- Canon EOS 1000D

So the ‘hunt‘ is over. We choose Canon EOS 1000D after reading reviews from the net,  gathering opinions from friends, calculate our own budget and also the kindness/helpfulness of the sales person.

Although I favor Nikon D60 over Canon EOS 1000D, but after considering my wife request that she want something that have Live View, so I end up with this. I almost buy Sony a300 if not a bad review by 1 sales person from Fotokem, although at the other hand,  she did provide not too good review about EOS 1000D (she politely asking me to get 450D instead, which is out of our budget)

I bought this camera from Canon Concept Shop at 1-Utama Shopping Mall, after testing kaw-kaw for almost 45 mins. The ‘auntie’ was nice and patiently showing us (who are noob) the features, when at the same time we pretend understand it so as not to look to dumb to her =)

Together with this camera, we got 4GB flash card, Canon EOS sling bag and tripod, which all totaled RM1990 (she said the other items is freebies). I know that this is not the best deal in the market (some more we bought it from Canon Concept shop itself), but since I wanted this badly before heading our hometown for family’s ‘Kenduri Selamat’  tomorrow, few ringgit different does not really matter (not really)

Stay tune for our first scenery photos  (hopefully soon) once I mastered this camera :) This price list should provide you an idea how much your DSLR of your choice is (especially to Topo)
