Maxis’s CNY Sale : RM188 for Blackberry Curve 8520

BB_corve_maxis_188

There is no better time to get yourself a Blackberry Curve 8520 other than now, as Maxis is ‘letting go’ this device for RM188 only. But before you get too excited, please be reminded that you have to pay the 12 months service upfront which equals to RM1176.

That’s RM1364 in total together with the device price. But, it still a super good deal, compared to early buyers who have to fork out RM800-RM1000 for the device only. And then live with RM58 - RM98 monthly fee to stay with ‘unlimited’ data service.

Check out this page for this incredible offer.

Install Blackberry App World in Restricted Countries

Thanks to this post at Crackberry Forum, I have my Blackberry 8520 installed with Blackberry App World. You don’t have to wait RIM to roll out App World to other countries, because using the workaround stated in that post will enable every Blackberry devices to have App World installed.

I know, it is annoying if you can’t install Blackberry App World if you live in countries not yet listed to receive that service. Without apps, the device is just another smart phone on the market.. without soul and boring. As I had said before, RIM is pretty slow in expanding App World, but well.. I don’t care about that anymore now.

Unboxing Blackbery Curve 8520 Celcom Set

Celcom throws a party at the The Republic, Sunway Pyramid last Saturday to unveil Blackberry Curve 8520 . The live music and the crowd bring the atmosphere to be even more lively than just regular boring gadget launch, a stark contrast to the Windows Mobile 6.5 event that happen to be nearby.

I’m among the first few users who bought the Blackberry Curve 8520 that day, after weeks of long wait. The fact that the phone is priced at RM888 (although they were ‘forcing’ us to buy RM50 top up) made the decision easier. With Celcom, you’re not bound to any contract to enjoy full Blackberry services such as BIS and internet from RM2.50 perday.

Before that, this is not a phone review (although couple of friends ask me to do so), merely the due ‘unboxing’ post supposed to be posted over the weekend. But Eid Mubarak Open House had delayed that till today.

So here is the first image, the whole packaging with blue color plastic bag.  Hard paper bag will give more exclusive looks for the phone, but yeah, this is budget Blackberry.

The Blackberry Curve 8520 in a black color box. Finally I own one… honestly Iphone packaging is superior than this one..

I was too excited and forgot to shot the very first moment, when the box is opened, and reveal the plastic wrapped phone. Anyway, the phone is a beauty even at the first glance. IMG_5192

Nothing special with the accessories, you got charger, USB cable and earphone. The black leather holster is free for those who purchased the phone during that event. Another freebies, the ‘exclusive’ phone skin is going to be posted later. There are bunches of guides as well as a CD inside as well.

I include this image to show how to setup your Blackberry browser to enjoy Blackberry internet service, because some first time users, including me had experienced the credit dried out immediately such as at this post.

Overall, physically Blackberry Curve 8520 is a one beauty smart phone with slightly cheap built. But it was compensated with awesome Blackberry service. What would you expect from Celcom’s EDGE connection and does it fast enough and sufficient to get you online?? Stay tune.

Celcom to offer Blackberry Curve 8250 with Xpax prepaid plan

blackberry celcom prepaid Celcom to offer Blackberry Curve 8250 with Xpax prepaid plan

I’m happy iPhone user for almost 8 months now, though I’m not subscribing any data plan from any telcos. It lived mostly on WiFi, defeating its main purpose as ’smart phone’ and portable device. But it is unusual for prepaid users like me, who bought an iPhone from grey market, and refused to switch to other telcos that offer data plan for users running on prepaid plan.

After iPhone, one of my wish-list which yet to get fulfilled till today is to have… Blackberry device… and I want to use it ‘kaw-kaw’.. I mean fully utilize the whole functions, including the famous BB email services, not just merely phone call, sms (texting) or web browsing. But… I don’t want to spend so much money on the data services.. or in plain English pay as you use. Guess what, I think I’ll have my dream come true very soon. But how??

Yeaahhaaa, from this Xpax page, it looks like Celcom is going to offer Blackberry Curve 8250… with prepaid plan. See, finally prepaid users can use BB as well, what. I know it’s too early to get exited.  Additionally, no information regarding the price and rate made available just yet. My rough guess (I hope it is true) would be below Rm1.5 for the device itself. If the price is higher than that, I better top up another RM500 to get more decent and powerful Blackberry Bold from ebay or lelong.

Blackberry Curve 8250 is said to be an entry level device from RIM, aim to personal use and consumer market.  It’s lack of 3G connectivity will probably drive regular BB user away from this device, but for the first timer who move from other smartphone will forgive this missed, as long as the price is right.

Stay tune till the end of this September when telcos will annouce the pricing of this device. So at the moment, don’t over spending for your Hari Raya Aidil Fitri (Eid Mubaraq) celebration, if you want to be among the first to get hold of this device. If possible, get more ang pow from your parents and relatives, if you still single and below 20 :)
