Blackberry Bold 9700 is now available without contract at Digi Online Store. With price at only Rm1688, you get free Digi Prepaid Simcard, premium number selection, an umbrella and yes it is delivered to your doorstep free of charge. You save Rm311 according to Digi as the Phone RRP is RM1999. For comparison, the same phone RRP at Celcom and Maxis is RM1788 and RM2099 respectively. You still pay less regardless what is the RRP and importantly, you’re not in any contract.

Celcom is pioneering Blackberry prepaid service last year, but apparently goes in hibernate mode since then. There is almost no update on their offering, until this week. Now they have something better to offer, with the not so new Blackberry smartphone model. In addition to Blackberry Curve which available since day one, Blackberry Bold 9700 white and black color and Blackberry Storm 9520 are now on sale, giving customer more option on smartphone model they want. Both are priced at RM1788, slightly discounted by Celcom as compared to retail price.

Owning Blackberry without Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) is quite wasteful, you’ll miss the entire features in Blackberry and BIS. But if you don’t mind, here is your chance to get the Blackberry from Celcom with only voice and sms package. Blackberry Storm 2 and Bold 9700 is available at RM1488 with only RM50 commitment per-month. Blackberry Curve 8520 is even cheaper, priced at RM688 with the same amount of commitment.
I’m quite skeptical with the promo initially, so I tweet my question to MyXpax, one of Celcom’s Twitter account, and the answer is positive. May I remind you again that, you’ll miss all the fun without BIS in your Blackberry. But I do believe that anytime you want to add BIS to your package, Celcom will still allows you to do so.

Maxis has standardized the pricing structure for all Blackberry package which include the device price and BIS subscription fee for 1 year or 6 months according to you line type. That means you have to dig slightly deeper into your pocket to own one such device from Maxis.
So here is the deal. Maxis is offering Bold 9700 white it at RM2459 for postpaid customer which comes with ‘free’ BIS service for one year. For prepaid customer, they need to fork out RM2279 with 6 months ‘free’ BIS service.
I’m now wondering why telcos nowadays love to charge the subscription fee in advance? To avoid MNP??
