One of the sorely missed feature in Blackberry devices sold in Malaysia is the lack of Blackberry App World, an app store equivalent to the like of Apple App Store, Nokia Ovie Store or Android Market. Although there is workaround to install it which is very simple, the paid app is still not available for purchase and not every users have an initiative to install it.

So if that statement from Celcom during the launch of Blackberry Storms 9520 is to be believed, Blackberry users in Malaysia will soon have Blackberry App World available on the device by June. Obviously, this development should pleased majority of Blackberry users who still without access to Blackberry App World.

Although the statement came from Celcom, RIM (the maker of Blackberry) tend to introduce this service by country instead of based on carriers in the past. I believe that users from other carriers will be able to enjoy this service as well.

Beside the attraction to the device itself, having access to Blackberry App World which currently hold more than 10,000 application should be another point that users will consider when shopping for a brand new phone or switching from one smartphone platform to another. Without the apps, probably it’s not far too much to say that you have missed 50% the fun that the smartphone is offering.

Install Blackberry App World in Restricted Countries

Thanks to this post at Crackberry Forum, I have my Blackberry 8520 installed with Blackberry App World. You don’t have to wait RIM to roll out App World to other countries, because using the workaround stated in that post will enable every Blackberry devices to have App World installed.

I know, it is annoying if you can’t install Blackberry App World if you live in countries not yet listed to receive that service. Without apps, the device is just another smart phone on the market.. without soul and boring. As I had said before, RIM is pretty slow in expanding App World, but well.. I don’t care about that anymore now.

Blackberry App World goes to Singapore and Indonesia

Indonesia and Singapore become the latest countries to get Blackberry App World, as announced on the latest Blackberry blog post. That means, the Blackberry population in Singapore and Indonesia will be able to install Blackberry App World and then download the apps on the fly, right from the device.

While that could be seen as the sign that Blackberry popularity grows in this part of the world, other South East Asian countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Philippine are still without the access to that apps inventory. That’s pretty much disappointing news, especially to the new comers who just come aboard from other smartphone platform that offers massive apps.

Mobile applications or knows more as apps, has become crucial part of smartphones in the recent years, and probably determine the success and longevity of any model in the market. It’s add more values to the smartphone beyond it’s basic function, as communication tool.

Although RIM continue to roll out Blackberry App World to more countries, but the pace is unacceptable to increasingly demanding users. The growing threat from other smartphones should be looks seriously by RIM, in order not to be seen irrelevant. As such, please.. please open Blackberry App World to everyone.. now.

Blackberry App World goes live but only open for limited countries

blackberry app world2 Blackberry App World goes live but only open for limited countries

The soon to be launched Blackberry Storm by Celcom and Maxis is surely to bring more customers to RIM. Adding more ‘fire’ to already ‘hot’ device is the fact that Blackberry App World has gone live last week [press release].

Although Blackberry device is not without applications , but the applications are scattering all over the web. This made it less interesting and time consuming finding application that suite the needs of Blackberry users, who are mostly business oriented peoples with busy schedule.

Having its own app store is definitely what Blackberry needed to boost its presence and better compete with the rest of players. It is time saver as well as providing convenient access for the device owner to buy and download the app directly from the device. The only downside is, the app is price from as low as RM2.99.

But wait, before you get too excited, for the time being, this app store is only open to US, Canada and UK folks. But stay tune, hope we don’t have to wait any longer.
