BIS 3.0 Will Add 2 Way Email Status Sync?

The lack of 2 ways email status sync for email is quite disappointing after sometime . At the moment, only actions ( such as read, sent emails) from Blackberry device will sync toward the web based email (eg Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail), but not the other way round.

That’s pretty annoying if you have read hundreds of email from other email program (web browser, Gmail app in Andoird, iPhone), but have to  mark it as already read ,manually in Blackberry, just for example.

Some good news is, the rumors about upcoming BIS 3.0 is said to overcome this issue. But apparently that’s only for Gmail plugin, so I guess other email have to stick with 1 way sync until.. I have no idea when.

The original source where this info first leaked, has uploaded document BIS 3.0 which apparently has been taken down.

I certainly hope this is for real!

Digi Unveil DG Smart Plan for Blackberry

If you still wondering what is Digi’s BIS plan for Blackberry, worry no more as it’s just been unveiled at Facebook. Branded as DG Smart Plan (although initially stated as DG BerrySmart Plan)  it is possibly the lowest full ‘unlimited’ data usage BIS plan in Malaysia at RM58 per month (Maxis BIS RM55 per month capped at 10MB).

But the biggest let down is that, this plan is not for prepaid users. Here is Digi’s DG Smart Plan overview.

  • Not for prepaid users as prepaid users have to convert their prepaid to postpaid.
  • Monthly BIS plan cost RM58 - Unlimited data usage, but unsure if’s include WAP.
  • Device RRP is RM1,199 without any voice and SMS plan.
  • You can subscribe to Digi BIS without voice plan and purchase device price at RRP with voice and SMS rate at RM0.15 per min voice call, RM0.10 per SMS, RM0.20 per MMS to any domestic numbers.
  • Device price is subsidized (see below) if you subscribe to DG50 or DG150 voice plan plus Digi BIS @ RM58. (Voice and SMS/MMS rate follows the voice plan). Bonus awaiting bis spender.
  • Data usage limit is unknown at the moment.

In case your office network is blocking Facebook, here is what is posted there. This info will available at Digi website later of the day. So do you think this is better than what Maxis and Celcom has offered?

Tethering From Prepaid Blackberry Curve 8520

Thinking of tethering from BIS prepaid account using Blackberry Curve 8520?? (Wondering what is tethering in the first place, please click tethering link before further reading). It is dead simple, trust me.

For Maxis and Celcom customers, there is a comprehensive guide complete with screen shots to get it done in minutes, big thanks to this post. How easy our life is nowadays, when everyone is giving their knowledge for free, right? And if you’re with Digi, refer to this post to get the APN. For other telcos, try Google or Bing :)
Screen shot below shows that the test run successfully… but..

This is very IMPORTANT. If you’re subscribing to Celcom BIS prepaid advance package, tethering use Celcom WAP, so beware of the steep charge!! Browsing 2 webpages makes my credit RM10 lesser.. imagine that.. only 2 webpages.. it had already deducted the credit that much..

So although it works, but it’s not worth your penny.. better stick with the device for internet browsing purpose.

Unless you use Postpaid BIS, or Maxis BIS prepaid Premium package which include free WAP access, do not try this at home.
