Android OS Application Development Course

Android may not as popular as iPhone OS, but there is prediction that it is going to bigger than iPhone OS by 2012. It might just another hype to gain popularity, but it still long way to go and anything is possible, just like when no one ever thought that iPhone is going to dominate smartphones market nowadays.

We have lot of iPhone apps out there, and even my fellow countrymen has produced apps that topping the top 25 app list  in App Store. But, we rarely seen Android app made in Malaysia. So here is the chance for you to polish/build your Android skill by enroll to this course. I stumble this course in newspaper before taking a further look, which I think is quite interesting.

The course fee for the first 10 participants is quite affordable, but even 3.5K is still reasonable. If you have attended professional courses such as ITIL, Oracle, Weblogic or even Management courses before, you’ll know the average fees for such course.

Who knows, you might be just one of the first millionaires developing and selling Android app in future… dream of becoming another stardom such as  Tap Tap Revenge dev superstar?

Unboxing HTC Magic

It is rainy day when I arrived at IT Hypermall the day after Christmas. About an hour later, I came out RM1.5k poorer, thanks to HTC Magic. The long dreamed Android smartphone finally in my pocket, ready to rock!

HTC Magic position itself between HTC Hero, the HTC’s Android based smartphone flagship model and HTC Tattoo, the slightly low end model running on Android 1.6. Compared to Windows Mobile smartphone, it is relatively an easy task choosing Android smartphone of your choice due to limited model we have currently in Malaysian market.

There are 17 Android based smartphone models available worldwide if I’m not mistaken, but I’m quite surprised to see only Android smartphones from HTC currently in sale (at the outlet). Well, since I already set HTC Magic as my first Android smartphone, the rest of the model doesn’t really matter now..

HTC Magic has been in the market for about 6 months, so I left the review part to this post, which covers almost everything. You know, GSMArena is always over delivered on it’s review, which why I trust them whenever I’m going to shop for new smartphone.

On my end, I’m more into the inner side of the smartphone such as the interesting apps, function and feature of the smartphone which you should start to see in the next few days, hopefully.

There are couple of things that almost end me up with Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone.  But luckily I’m sticking to my target. Before you decide to buy HTC Magic or any Android phone and using it in the country outside of the US, please be aware of following drawback. If you live in the US, that’s not going to be the big deal, as it’s there by default.

- No Android Market. By default, Android smartphone sold in South East Asean countries (such as Malaysia, Vietnam) doesn’t have it. It remind be of Blackberry App World that I have to install using the workaround. Imagine iPhone without its App Store, unimaginable?? Gone all the excitement in iPhone!!

You won’t be able to fully utilized to phone to its extent. Although there is workaround to install it (by flashing the ROM), but hey, not everyone has the skills  to do that.

- No GPS Software – HTC Magic is equipped with GPS but without GPS software and MAPS by default. Garmin?? Don’t ever dream of it. Jump to Windows Mobile smart phone which has the GPS app and maps pre-installed if you really wanted it.

But the  good news is, Papago X5 and maps (for Malaysia) had just been released recently. It is not free though and I’m not sure if it is good enough.

Seriously, it really need more effort to enjoy Android smartphone in this part of the world, just like other Android users in the US or other developed countries who enjoy the phone without risking their ‘life’.  There are workarounds available on the net, but it may void the warranty and in the worst case may turns it to brick.

But because my ultimate goal of having Andoid phone is for blogging purpose, just like how I use other smartphones run on Symbian, iPhone OS and Blackberry OS, and not for just daily usage, it is thousands times more worth than the amount that I have to part away and the time I have spent to get it works the way I want.

Anyway, here are some photos of the phone that I snap the day after I ‘kaw-kaw’ testing it. Gorgeous right!

Meet the new Android based smartphone from Motorola, Motorola Droid. The phone which is an instant hit news among tech blogs, is collaboration between Motorola , Verizon Wireless and Google that run the operating system (OS) of phone via Android 2.0. Yeah, you read it right, this is the first smartphone run Android 2.0.

Physically, the design itself is taking cue from the most popular smartphone on the market right now (almost all smartphones does) . It got extra huge screen, touch screen, high resolution screen but Droid is equipped with QWERTY keypad which can be slide in and out beneath the phone.

Certain quarter arguing, that this is the what the other smartphones are missing, and it seems that I’m quite agree with that, personally.

Heads on to BGR for hands on review and more photos. Its look awesome at the glance. But until this smartphone hit the street, I’m not dare to say this phone gonna be killed other smartphone in the market. It tend to fail in the past.. often.

Gmail in iPhone and Android get new engine, offline feature and UI enhancement

Google yesterday introduced new mobile browser version of Gmail, that said to be faster when user performs any action on iPhone or Android powered devices, such as reading or archiving email. The foundation behind all this speed is  HTML5 and Google Gears which is known,  for it effectiveness managing the web cache.Google Gears also will keep your devices connected even on the flaky connection.

Beside the speed, mobile web browser version of Gmail also received enhancement on how it make even easier now for any user to manage their inbox. Now there is floaty bar appears near the top of the screen. There are options such as to archive, delete, and more. The floaty bar stays with you when you scroll down or up your inbox. This is time saver as user no longer needed to scroll up or down to press such buttons in order to delete or archive any email,  which available only at the top and bottom of the screen.

Final improvement is on the Label functionality. Gmail bring the Gmail’s labellings for desktop functionality to the mobile version, which mean now, it is even easier to use and looks more familiar with it.
