Yet another Alexa ranking update on week 3, February

When I said last week that Alexa ranking is now being updated on monthly basis, I’m not sure if it still accurate right now. A day or 2 after February ranking update, there is another update which is positive for me.

And 1 week later, which is today, another update happens. After 3 months in a row Alexa ranking being updated on monthly basis, probably Alexa is ready to rolled out the update more frequently. So at the mean time, just lets Alexa doing its job, and we works harder to to achieve better ranks.

A reader asked about the relation between Alexa rank and traffic. Basically, the more traffic to your sites, the better Alexa ranking you’ll have. But keep in mind, that the traffic only counted from browser that has Alexa Toolbar installed. If you have Alexa badge installed on your site, that will contribute to better Alexa rank as well.

February Alexa rank update.

To Alex rank fan, another round of Alexa ranking update happens today!! Looking back the update trend for the last 3 months starting from December, it seems now that  Alexa ranking update now happen monthly, instead of weekly as before.

On last December, the rank update rolled out around 7th December, while on January it happens around 9th January. And for this months, it happen at 10th/11th February, as I notice my blog has their rank being updated intermittently.

Probably it is safe now to conclude that, Alexa rank update happens in the range of 7th to 11th every month.

Blogjer has its biggest jump ever, skyrocketing from 193k to 136k, which its best Alexa rank ever as well.  Love to see it again next month.

When is the next Alexa ranking update?

I know everyone loves ranking, so do I. In fact, ranking is one thing that motivates me to write and blog (other than $$$). The undisputed and most sought after, is nothing else than Google PageRank. Alexa ranking comes as the second most recognized ranking to me.

It’s been 2 weeks since Alexa changed how their ranking system works. Blogjer dropped 150k rank down to 300k from around 150K initially. And I’m not alone here. Almost all major blogs and websites experienced drop in ranking as well. I believe you’re one of the ‘victim’ too.

How hard had I achieved this rank, since I gave this blog a new life starting last December, but it’s gone in a blink of an eye. I’m not blaming Alexa though, even though I feel a little bit frustrated,  since the old system is inaccurate. As most of us aware of, it was calculated mostly based on the number of hit from the visitors who has Alexa toolbar installed.

Well now, is the new system trustworthy? I know, it’s still 2 weeks, and if it is judged by the UAT (user acceptance test) that is normally done on newly deployed system, 2 weeks is too short (lol, but this is free system, so no UAT). But the new system must has been in Beta prior to roll out on all websites.

On the previous system, Alexa rank was updated on weekly or bi-weekly basis (but sometimes in months). So there is the questions popped out on my head

  • How frequent Alexa ranking would get updated?
  • At the moment, Alexa only calculating traffic for the past 9 month. When the rest of data will be in?
  • How accurate the new system would be? What is the new rank algorithm?

I can’t wait to see the next Alexa rank update. Would blogjer.com get a better rank?? I wish to achieve the rank that I have had before, the least..
