New Adsense GUI

Adsense_Overview_b

It’s pretty exciting to know that Google Adsense GUI going to be revamped with totally new looks and hopefully with lots more features . But just hold on as it is currently open to few users only as beta tester

At least since 2006 when I first became Adsense Publisher, Google Adsense’s GUI is pretty much the same until now, except additional functionality and enhancement that were introduced from time to time.

If you interested to have sneak preview of what Google Adsense going to be, head to SEORoundTable (link to their Flickr) or the their who had been invited as beta tester. There are couple of screen shots taken which included screen from earning overview , channel data and etc.

I’d like to see Google Adsense be able to display statistical data which now can only be seen from Google Analytics, but further group it based on the channel that we create. Other than that, Adsense is rocks!!

6 months active domain to join Adsense program for new publisher?

I still remember the day when I applied for Adsense account almost 3 years ago. The only adsense 6 months active domain to join Adsense program for new publisher?site that I have is on Googlepages (not Google Sites), which is about 2 months old if I’m not mistaken. Since then I never apply for a new account.. you know, that is against Adsense TOS.

So it is quite surprising to know that Google now require the new applicant to have at least domain that active for 6 months. Seriously, I can’t find anywhere in Term and Condition, Program Policies. If this is indeed truth, anyone thinking of registering for Adsense account should thinking twice before doing that. Just to make sure that Google didn’t keep the record of your application before, in assessing your application.

Just curious if this is just not written rules applied for new publishers? For current publishers however, they’re free to put Adsense code onto their new website, as long as it is not under construction and fully compliance with Adsense’s terms of use. The Adsense ads will immediately appear after a while.

This is something new, and let see if Google is going to make this official rules.

Adsense interest-based ads todo list for publishers

If you’re an Adsense publisher, by now, you probably should have received and read this email. It’s about the interest-based advertising that Google going to roll out in near future.

I’ve almost forgotten about it if not because of this post. So what actions needed from publisher?

First, Google request publishers to update privacy concern (if any or compulsory?) on the website before 8th April.  Read here, to know what should be added. It is quite technical though, even myself read it 2-3 times to get to it.

Secondly, by opt in into this program, you have choices what type of ads you want to appear on your website. Set this ads preference on Google Ads Preference page. For instance, if your blog is technology oriented, you can put technology, gadget, as the  preference.

By default, all publishers are opt in on this program, but if you still having doubt about this it, you can opt out from it. Special opt out plugin will be installed in your browser to retain your opt out setup even when the cookies were deleted.

So do you opt out? I did, until I can see the good results from other publishers.

Read posts from Google blog, Adsense Blog and Google Public Policy blog for depth review.

We’re writing to let you know about the upcoming launch of interest-based advertising, which will require you to review and make any necessary changes to your site’s privacy policies. You’ll also see some new options on your Account Settings page.

Interest-based advertising will allow advertisers to show ads based on a user’s previous interactions with them, such as visits to advertiser website and also to reach users based on their interests (e.g. “sports enthusiast”).  To develop interest categories, we will recognize the types of web pages users visit throughout the Google content network.  As an example, if they visit a number of sports pages, we will add them to the “sports enthusiast” interest category.  To learn more about your associated account settings, please visit the AdSense Help Center at http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/topic.py?topic=20310.

As a result of this announcement, your privacy policy will now need to reflect the use of interest-based advertising. Please review the information at https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=100557 to ensure that your site’s privacy policies are up-to-date, and make any necessary changes by April 8, 2009.  Because publisher sites and laws vary across countries, we’re unfortunately unable to suggest specific privacy policy language.

For more information about interest-based advertising, you can also visit the Inside AdSense Blog at http://adsense.blogspot.com/2009/03/driving-monetization-with-ads-that.html.

We appreciate your participation and look forward to this upcoming enhancement.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

Adsense blog no longer exclusive for Adsense related content

google news adsense Adsense blog no longer exclusive for Adsense related content

If you think Google Adsense Blog is only for Adsense related update, you’re probably wrong, starting today. For some unknown reason,  Google News post today appear on Google Adsense blog.

What a confusing!!  Frankly speaking, I can’t see how Google News related to Google Adsense. Unless Google would like to announce, that Adsense publishers can start monetizing Google News widget installed on their blog, I don’t see any relevancy of this post over there.

But one thing for sure, that Google Adsense has that Google News blog does not. ..  huge visitors and subscribers.

While Google Adsense blog has 24,261 plus RSS subscribers, plus other visitors who might visit the blog directly, Google News Blog merely has 4035 RSS readers and probably less visitors considering it is relatively new service .  So now, do you know what that means ?

After all, it is Google.
