The copy of Blackberry OS 5.0 for Blackberry Curve 8520 has leaked since last year, but only officially available beginning this month. It appears that the leaked version (v5.0.0.4111) and the official version (5.0.0.509) has different version number, which may pointing to specific carriers.

Apart from that, the most obvious different between the two is the key lock button, which is now using the mute button located on top of the device. Some also experience poor phot0 quality after upgrade.

Apple To Support Multitasking in iPhone OS 4.0?

If what was posted by AppleInsider is true, the most talk about and greatest limitation of iPhone OS (in iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) will soon become a history. Multitasking, one of the last missing piece (beside flash) in iPhone OS is said to be delivered on iPhone OS 4.0 update.

Devices running iPhone OS does capable of supporting multitasking although in limited fashion. By default, Iphone OS only let it’s application such as iPod, email and SMS to run in the background when user open another application. In contrast, third party application will automatically closed if other application is opened. The lack of this feature inviting criticism from rival who’re making fun of this in their marketing campaign, as well as fans who frustrated with the lack of the support.

ProSwither is one of free app that can enable multitasking in iPhone. But ProSwitcher only available in Cydia, which means the iPhone need be  jailbroken to have this app installed.

But having multitasking feature by default in the iPhone OS is a much better solution for all. Not everyone willing to jailbreak their devices, as it will break the warranty as well as making it vulnerable to virus and other security threat (if the default root password not changed after jailbroken process).

Unfortunately no date given when iPhone OS 4.0 will be released.

9 Iphone Learning Apps for Kids

Apps Store, a place for iPhone/iPod users to find and download applications such as games, tools, now offers learning tools for your little ones. I remember when I first got my iPhone, there was only a few categories of the apps and back then, the learning applications for little ones is not available just yet.

By now, the awareness for the benefits to have such a learning tool application has made iPhone/iPod even a wonderful tool to share with our small ones (especially to keep our son occupied so that we can feed him with ease hehe).

Here are some of his favorites :

1. Baby phone - Baby phone app is a simple app, replicating the phone keypad menu and comes with the number’s pronunciation as you type the keypad.

2. Ladybug Ladybug - One of my son’s favorite app, it is a song about a ladybug that flies from one part of human body to another, to provide useful information to kids about human body, and where there are.

3. Baby Piano (Lite Version) - This is piano for kids with 2 sounds mode. There is ‘do re mi’ sound (not complete in lite version) as well as animal sound. The piano can be played manually, or you can record the sounds and then play it later.

4. My First ABC - App to learn ABC using flash cards, where each alphabets will have a sample item beginning with that alphabet, along with their pronunciation.

5. Funny Flash - Teach ABC using flash card where the images transformed to its first alphabet. However, the free version comes with only 3 alphabets, you can get all the letters when buying its full version.

6. Color Me Lite - Application for coloring pictures, with the color selection provided at the bottom of images. Tap a color, and tap a part of the image and the color will fill up the selection. The finished colored images can also be exported to Photo Library.

7. Learning Pad - All in one app which teaches ABC, 123, Animals, and Colors. Pronounces the alphabet/number/animal/colors upon touch. Animal pad also lets out the animal’s sound apart from its name.

8. ABC’s free - Teach ABC from A to Z, with letter’s pronunciation and notes playing upon selection.

9. Kidzongs Lite - App comprising of ABC song and 3 little monkeys song. You can choose to either sing the song with lyrics, or only the song to let kids sing the lyrics.

And those listed up there, are free of charge (lite version) :) but of course, some of the app’s functions are limited. For eg, the baby piano of lite version doesn’t have the highest pitch keypad of ‘Do’. But you can buy the full version to get their full features.

First iPad Game Previewed in High Res Images

In coming months, the internet will be flooded with news, post, reviews, hate and love about iPad. That is the moment when iPad will finally shipped to the customers in the US. Excuse me, even myself can’t stop posting anything cool about iPad, err which means traffic as well.

Games is one of the key selling point in iPod Touch , iPhone and soon in iPad as well. If you used with playing games in iPhone and iPod, you must we wondering how good, gorgeous the game is, if the games can be played in iPad.

I’m not really into games, but I do play Red Alert and Fifa in my iPhone occasionally. The accelerator, touch screen is good enough to play the games that you used to play using joystick or keyboard. That’s the wonder of touchscreen with multi touch capabilities in Apple devices.

So now, how good it is actually? You must view these images to witness the quality by yourself. The image are the screen shot  from the popular games called Zen Bound (sorry never heard of it). What do you think? Good enough? Satisfied?

Symbian S^3 Released, S^4 Concept Previewed

The last time I use phone running on Symbian OS is early last year. It is Sony Ericsson P990i which runs on Symbian S60.

Forget the older S60.There is now Symbian S^3 which was released last month during MWC 2010 at Spain. It does have all the traits the other smartphone OS had including fast scrolling vertically and horizontally, beautiful UI, pinch to zoom , multitasking and etc. For Nokia which owns Symbian, with apps from Ovi Store, Symbian S^3 has the potential to be the huge hit with the right strategy.

But for other smartphone vendors, the adoption of this OS is likely going to be slow. Most will prefer to be ‘wait and see’ stance to see if Nokia itself successful in marketing Symbian S^3 phone such as Nokia X10 to the world.

But many will still skeptical about the new OS. For one including myself, I have always want the OS in my smartphone to get upgraded whenever new version coming out, instead of buying new phone. That doesn’t happen to my old Sony Ericsson, and that’s one thing that should be carefully considered when you plan to buy Symbian based phone in future.

Not to stuck with only Symbian^3 version, Symbian S^4 project has already in pipeline. The demos are already out showing the homescreen and photo UI concept. Not many impressed with that, but as this is just the concept, it could be modified according to the feedback received.

Symbian existence as an open source smartphone OS has rocky path. Other than to compete with proprietary OS such as iPhone, Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 Series and WebOS, the main threat comes from Android, an open source mobile OS as well, backed by Google. Android proven to be one of the most innovative mobile OS in recent years with it’s phone being adopted by almost all phone vendors and dominating the market once conquered by Symbian. Symbian has to move fast and innovative as well to stay relevant.
