Site Hierarchies Spotted

Stumble upon a site hierarchies of this blog when I’m searching for few key phrases. According to this Google blog post, it is an “improvement that replaces the URL in some search results with a hierarchy showing the precise location of the page on the website.” It gives you more visibility and information of the page you’re searching for, instead of just the page title.

Also know more as breadcrumb in websites blog structure, each link in the site hierarchies are linking back to the actual website structure. The good thing about this is, you’ll be able to view other contents under that link. The change will available globally few days after that blog post.

Have you spot one?

Google Sitelinks Disappear, Tips on How To Get It Back.

It’s just a coincidence that after page rank update (yeah, dropped 1 level), this blog sitelinks appear back after been briefly missing. While I have stopped trying to figure that out, the new sitelinks really pleased me. To be honest, I’m kinda worried if the sitelink disappearance is due to ‘penalty’ or ‘slap’ from Google. Glad it is back now, hopefully permanently.

Do you keep track of your sitelinks? Is there any difference? Well.. yes in my case. If you compare the new sitelinks with old sitelinks on the screen shot below, except link to ‘blog resources’, other links are totally brand new link .

How to get sitelinks?

Before that, let’s take a look at what GoogleWebmaster says about sitelinks.

We only show sitelinks for results when we think they’ll be useful to the user. If the structure of your site doesn’t allow our algorithms to find good sitelinks, or we don’t think that the sitelinks for your site are relevant for the user’s query, we won’t show them.

Well.. it’s still pretty much unclear to most I guess, but what it’s trying to say is “keep your hands off sitelinks”. Then “It runs fully automated and there is no chance to game it.. ” Sort off, but you can try it.  I found this post (need to be translated) clearly explaining about sitelinks, as well as providing quite comprehensive tips on how to get sitelinks.

Ok, back to this blog sitelinks, I’m not sure what Google really think when it made these links as sitelinks. I have no argument on other links except for ‘Celebrity’ and ‘Politics’ which has very limited coverage in this blog. But 1 thing for sure, it has something special that Google thinks these contents are very ‘useful’ to you. What do you think?

  • Google – One of the most topics that I blogged
  • Yahoo Mail – This blog has pretty good rank with this key phrase

Anyway, you can block any sitelinks that you think  irrelevant from Google Webmaster Central.

Tips to get sitelinks for WordPress blog

Base on my own sitelinks, if your blog runs on WordPress platform,  there are a few points to note.

  • Google lovew WordPress ‘page‘, not posts.
  • Google no longer pick single post as one of links in sitelinks
  • Sitelinks are made from pages, tags and categories
  • Write pages with quality and comprehensive contents.
  • Minimize changes on your blog – Theme, categories, tag, sitemap & etc

What should you do if your sitelinks disappear?

Sitelinks tend to disappear and then reappear on its own. Do not panic. If you think that you have not make any changes on any part of your blog at the time when the sitelinks disappeared, let it be. Sometimes, it is Google’s own algorithms that changes, not because of your blog. Furthermore, we have very little control on what would be your website sitelinks.

However, if you think it’s the changes that you have made before might be effecting the sitelinks, revert it back to the original one if you feel uncomfortable without it. Unless the change is meant for better SEO, ranking or what so ever that is positive, you have to think it very carefully.

If the sitelink disappeared followed by drastically dropped traffic, watch out, you’re in crisis. Google may has penalized or slapped your blog for some reason.

Detect Malware in Your Websites With Google Webmaster Lab

4029985643 5114c91712 Detect Malware in Your Websites With Google Webmaster Lab

You might have seen some warning ‘this site may harm you‘  such as this one on the search result page, when you performing search in search engines. When you click the link with harmful message, another warning will be displayed, details the possible treat to your computer. Visitors absolutely stay away from this kind of websites, resulting decrease in visitors and earning.

As a webmaster, this is nightmare. Even worst if the webmaster not even aware that their website is infected by harmful malware.

When Google Webmaster came with it’s own lab feature, one of the first lab feature introduced is Malware Details. Malware Details will tell you which pages are infected with malware in detail including type of treat and the URL, or if it is clean from any treat, you’ll get the result as mine above.

The easiest way to know if your websites are effected or not, is by performing search using your website name as the key phrase by your own, but I doubt many of you do that often, including me.

I found this tool very handy because I logged more often to the Google Webmaster Central monitoring my websites rather than perform search on the search engines.  You’ll get to know any issue happen to your websites, before being informed by someone else, or when you already start losing money.

How Not To Improve Bing

bing add site How Not To Improve Bing

bing error How Not To Improve Bing

I’m surprised that Bing Webmaster Centre is not fully functional after much hype surrounding Bing recently. What’s in the mind of MS team that develop Bing Webmaster Centre?

The screen shot above is my account, where Blogjer.com has been listed since ‘LIVE’ era. It was migrated here when Bing introduced, although I notice some websites went missing. No idea why.

But to my disappointment, an attempt to add new website failed with message ‘We could not find the page you requested‘. That’s odd if Bing team does not realize that something is broken somewhere under their custody .

Webmaster tool is crucial for webmaster who want to have their websites indexed and ranked better in Bing.  Why? Because webmaster can tell Bing what should you looking at my website, and what shouldn’t. Or how and where should you find decent content in your website.

The webmaster who ranked well and earn big as the result of having decent ranking there, will naturally praise bing. As the result of word of mouth publicity, it will bring more webmasters to Bing to explore what potential Bing has for them.

But apparently, Microsoft does not really paying attention to their own tool. Before I decide to post this article, I’ve been waiting for a week, with hope that Microsoft will fix it. The wait is over.

With Microsoft, nothing is impossible.
