What is Maybank’s Pre-Autho transaction?

Last month, I have posted a brief review about Maybank Visa Debit Card which was just released at that time. I have no problem at all using it for offline sales.

For bloggers or internet marketers, one of the much awaited function on this card is, whether it can be used to activate your Paypal account or not. Unfortunately, Kak G has attempted to do this, it is not working. Looks like we still need those prepaid and debit cards available out there on the market.

There is one more thing that I would like you to pay attention if you’re card holder. If you fuel up at any petrol station by swapping your card at the pump machine itself, or booking hotel, Maybank will charge you extra, with line item called Pre-Autho in your transaction list. I seldom check my transaction online immediately after shopping, so was quite surprise (and mad) when I see this on my account.

I contact them immediately, and this is how their customer support respon. And I have since then get back the extra amount charged.

What do you think of this kind of process? Does it fair to us as consumer?? Let me know what you think.

Another thing that I notice too is that, when you’re swapping your card in the pump machine, you’re no longer needed to key in the PIN number, as compared to previous card. I feel insecure this way. So in case you card is stolen, you may lose your money easily and almost immediately before you manage to report it to Maybank.

Dear Mr….

Thank you for your email.

We wish to inform you that holding-of- funds for the following transaction will be done. This holding of funds will be reflected as “Pre Autho Debit” in your account statement:-

  • Hotel – Amount depends on the duration of stay whereby on check-in, pre-authorization amount will be charged. During check-out, the pre-authorization amount will be reversed and the actual amount will be charged.
  • Petrol transaction at the pump (outdoor) – Pre-authorization amount is RM150 but some petrol operators allow the cardholder to select the amount at the pump. Pre-authorization amount will be charged to customer’s banking account during the fill-up. The pre-authorization amount will be reversed back and the actual filled-up amount will be charged to customer’s bank account once the bank receives the actual filled-up amount from the acquiring bank. Averagepre-authorization holding day is 3 days.

does G know what you did last summer?

Once upon a time, there is a boy called Jon (not a real name). Jon has many best friends, among them is Y, M and G (not real name). Jon is very close with all of them especially G. Jon is very clever, so does G. The difference is G has mountains of knowledge while Jon has just started learning.

As they grow up, Jon chooses to go on a different path from G. And while G is growing bigger and better, Jon notices that G has become very powerful and has scared many of his friends too, even though G didn’t mean to do so. Due to G’s brilliance, many Jon’s friends worry to try out what they want, and they’re trying to befriend G (even though not sincerely).

Jon is not happy with the whole situation. So he started using G’s resources that G had invented, in order to get to know G better. Finally he got to know something that his friends do not know about G. G is actually not as smart as they think he is. G is not God, he is also ‘human’.

So, Jon decided to share his secret about G with his friends, free of charge. To make his friend and his friend’s friend happier, he gives 25 cents for those who reads the secret. You know, Jon is so nice, and I find him nice too.

So, be one of Jon’s friend, read his e-book (this is an affiliate link. Jon asked me to collect as many friends as possible, so come on and join me).

Facts below is the foundation of Jon’s findings.

Myth #1: G Knows All and Sees All
Myth #2: G Will Not Rank Duplicate Content
Myth #3: You Must Get Links From Related Subject Sites to Rank
Myth #4: Your Site Must Focus On One Subject To Rank
Myth #5: High PageRank Means Good Rankings
Myth #6: To Maintain Good Rankings, You Must Add New Content
MYTH #7: THE BIGGEST MYTH: Ranking In G Is Hard!

So now, most of Jon’s friends had already known the secret about G, and they are no longer scared of G. They then live happily ever after. Want to be like them?read his e-book

Disclaimer : G is not human and Jon is a human being just like me.

Towards a cashless society

School holidays, Eid-ul-Adha, and Christmas, all is now over and New Year is right in front of us. During this period, I believe, whether you’re single, married, with kids or whatsoever, you’d have spent quite a lot of your income (or future income) to celebrate those festives. Not to mention the expenditure for the preparation of your kids to enroll to a new school season as well.

What is your spending habit? Moderate? Lavish? Or really budget on each items?

In my statement on the first paragraph, I’ve mentioned about spending spree. Keeping track of what we spent on is a wise idea to not waste money in the oncoming shopping spree. There’s a few ways to do this, whether we keep the bills on the items that we spent on, and lump it together with listings on your credit/debit/prepaid cards. Next is to study them, whether we are spending on the unnecessary stuffs or otherwise, whether we had overspent on our credit cards, or whether we had had disappointed our loved ones of not buying some of the stuffs they desired whereas we have had the extra money to make them happy.. Okkk, if we’re on debit/prepaid card, we’d know if we do have that extra money to further spend our money on or not..

Have you heard about debit card or prepaid card? Nope, its not the mobile phone reload prepaid that we’re going to talk about in this article. This debit card or prepaid card work a little bit like credit card, that we can use a card while doing any shopping transaction. However, the principle behind it is not the same. Both debit card and prepaid card requires our own money to exist. It’s like we’re using our own money, but paying with a card instead of money, a move towards a cashless society. In addition to that, since we’re using our own money, we do not incur debt nor will there be any interest rates levied on overdue payments.

Can it be used anywhere anytime?
Many of the debit cards and prepaid cards partner with international retail electronic payment networks such as Visa and MasterCard. Thus, we can use them for online transactions as well as transactions with merchants around the world.

Any requirements?
Application requirements are much less strict than credit cards, since we’re not borrowing money from anyone. There’s no standard salary requirement for this. Almost anyone can apply for it.

What if the card is lost?
Don’t worry, the security works like credit card as well, we can make a phone call to the hot-line immediately to block the card from any further transactions. Thus, it is safe if we’re thinking to use the debit card or the prepaid card.

With these debit cards or prepaid cards, we’re being credit-less, that is we don’t have the tendency to overspend. This would be a beautiful solution for those who finds it difficult to control their spending desire, and at the same time, we’re going cashless. Another benefit on this is that we’d be able to track on the things we spent on, and we can try to limit them rationally. For my case, I’m not totally going on debit card for all my expenditures, and to keep a track would need me to keep all the bills and receipts which can be a messy thing.. But of course, with debit card or prepaid card, we wouldn’t be able to go beyond what we have or to purchase an item under interest-free installment payment plan. Another thing, reward points are typically non-existent or lower compared to credit cards.

So, come on and have a try on these and be cashless. Hehe, making it harder to thieves to steal our hard cold cash in a big amount ;)

Please donate for flood victim

I’m taking a brief break from posting about how to achieve online visibility. For those who’re not aware of the recent floods (and how bad it is) in Kelantan, Pahang and Johor of Malaysia, I would like to plead for donation to them. Please, they’re really in need. I know we have our government and big corporations, but our contribution to our fellow Malaysian is really needed as well.

I have experienced flood every year when I was a kid back in 1980s, I know how bad it it . Every RM that you donate is priceless.

Imagine you’re in their situation, what would you expect from your fellow Malaysians? You’ll hope someone will rescue you, give you food, and help you start a new life, after all that you have got, your effort so far, and your income be submerged and destroyed by flood. I know it’s hard to imagine that, but believe me, your effort won’t gone away unnoticed by God.

Law of Attraction from my perspective

By~ Mai::

A best friend of mine recently paid a visit, and suddenly this topic of law of attraction came up. I heard my husband once mentioned about it, but I did not have any interest to search for it back then. Furthermore, my husband is meant to be an IT guy, not a lecturer, therefore the topic was dead until my best friend came and told me about the basics of the theory, and some examples in life.

It is really rather interesting, and yea, it can be applied to life, the whole principle I mean. Basically the gist I’ve got is that we have to have positive thoughts or dreams, and having that will bring or attract us to work on ways to get to it. Yes, it is in line with our religion if we look it in further, God will help those who helps themselves.

One very related story happened today, this best friend of mine had a chance to enter a contest, and she won 2nd place on one the monthly prizes. She was so happy for this since she hardly gets the chance to win any contests. It’s worth RM1k. This then brought her to the opportunity to go into the finale of the contest, which would entitle the winner to get RM100k.

Yup, she went to study about the organizer, in case if there’d be any questions on it since the method of contest is not told until the day the contestants are to be gathered, which is today. She studied till very late at night (till ~3-4am), but unfortunately, the method of the final contest has nothing to do with any of knowledge based method.

It’s on lucky draw, and a few others but nothing about what she knows on the organizer. But !!!! guess what, she still won the prize :D its RM100K !!! with God’s will of course, and others who’d prayed for the winning well, another real life story to be associated with The Law of Attraction and certainly I myself have to learn to always go by this rule.. still in the learning stage ;)

p/s Raymond, one of regular commentators here has very informative blog about Law of Attraction.
