is Apple iPhone 3G really for you?

If you have $199 (MYR636.8) now, what are you going to buy? Would it be this one?

apple iphone 299

If Apple iPhone 3G is available right now in your market, I’m sure you’ll most likely to get one for yourself. Why not?

The price is definitely unbeatable. Steve Job has promised that iPhone will be priced at USD199 maximum, far more cheaper than Nokia N-series and other 3G phones available in the market. With 3G, WIFI, GPS, and its cool look, now you have more reasons to have 1 compared to a year ago, when iPhone was just launched and was lacking these capabilities.

Among the highlight features in new 3G iPhone.

  • Tri-band 3G speed
  • Maps with GPS (A-GPS)
  • 2 megapixel iPhone (no front camera though)
  • Wifi (802-11b/g)
  • Apps Store - To download application for your iPhone
  • Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

More technical specs can be found at Apple.

But wait, iPhone is only available in 22 countries below this coming July 11.

And another 48 more countries slated later this year. I know you’re gonna be disappointed upon seeing your country not listed here.. including Malaysia

Before you start saving on your salary or pocket money to get it next month, think about it again. Does iPhone worth your every cents and do you really need it? With recent bad economy situation, food and price hike, think it over again if you really need it.

9rules - overview and what it takes to join?

Honestly, I’ve never heard of 9rules until Cyperhack and Liewcf blogged about their acceptation into the 9rules. With such blogs uttering their excitement, I’m curious of what the heck 9rules is. So I gave them a visit. Bearing the slogan “The Best Content From The Independent Web”, are they living to what is expected?

Before that, let’s go the fundamental of 9rules which contains 9 rules (yeah as its name said), taken from its about page. Well, there is nothing new. You may have heard of it somewhere else. But while the rules look simple and sound familiar to the ears, how many of us are really practicing it on our real life… sad to say, neither is myself.

  1. Love what you do.
  2. Never stop learning.
  3. Form works with function.
  4. Simple is beautiful.
  5. Work hard, play hard.
  6. You get what you pay for.
  7. When you talk, we listen.
  8. Must constantly improve.
  9. Respect your inspiration.

At a glance

My first impression of 9rules is, it is one kind of blog aggregator (or collection of blog) of selected blogs which has ‘quality’ contents chosen by 9rules membership, regardless of how much the visitors are. When they’re talking about quality, the quantity of visitors does not matter, so does the pagerank or any other ranks.

It takes quite sometime for me to understand what 9rules is even though initially, there are few things that I’m still quite confuse even after reading their about page. This is resulted from the lack of definition on about page especially on past history of 9rules.

9rules has evolved 3 times since been rolled out 3 years ago

Ali (domain in 9rules.com) -> Ali2 (domain in 9rules.com) -> Existing 9rules + Chawlk (domain in chawlk.com)

9rules

9rules

Ali and Ali2 which are the first 2 versions of 9rules get and display contents from members and non members. This is totally different with the current version of 9rules, which has 100% content from its members only whom selected by 9rules membership.

There are 2 types of membership. Similar profile in 9rules can be used in Chawlk

  • Reader/Audience - You’re allowed to register at any time. From there you’ll be given a profile page where you can favorite your favorite post, view all related posts of your favorite post and etc
  • Member - This is for blog owners and which I intend to join on the next round. Once accepted, your content will be aggegated on 9rules. Readers can start to favorite your content. This is quite cool.

Chawlk

Chawlk is like a sibling of 9rules, but I’m not sure if it is pulling the content from 9rules. Here, you can signup using your 9rules credential. To me, Chawlk looks like a Digg type of website, where you can post links (called as clip) and discussions (called as notes) under categories below which are actually “subsites” of Chawlk. Chawlk will pull and display all contents submitted altogether.

chawlk subsites

How to join?

What’s special about 9rules is that, it has 24 hour submission process. This make 9rules exclusive. After that period, no more submission is accepted until the next round.

To stay relevant with it’s own rules above, it seems that it is quite tough for personal blogs or blogs with no niche to join 9rules. But anyway, you won’t know whether you’re going to be accepted if you don’t try, right? Mark this date in your calendar.

  • May 7, 2008
  • August 6, 2008
  • November 5, 2008

If you’re seriously considering to join 9ules, read and understand the basic principal behind it and make sure that you have the quality as well as originality. I myself has set my own sight to be in 9rules on a later stage, but still I’m gonna submit my application on the next round. But before that, help me fix the bug from the installation of Wordpress 2.5.1;)

Little bit about statistics

My favorite part, it’s not a complete post without statistics right?

Chawlk is relatively a new website rolled out last January. It does not have as much visitors that 9rules is having at the moment. But Chawlk is showing a little sign of improvement (though no spike), while 9rules is going the other way round.

p/s; this is not a sponsored review or persuasive post to include blogjer in or whatsoever intention

On this page and on wikipedia have mentioned about Ali, Ali2 which are stated as the codenames for 9rules’s version. But it doesn’t mention what Ali and Ali2 is or where they are now. And then there is my.9r which is ‘friend and point area‘. Again there is no complete desription about it. And finally there is Chawlk, which I finally can see how it does look like. From this post, Chawlk is the new my.9r , which incorporates all functionality from there and relaunching it in a new website. So what’s left on 9rules??

Alexa is not dead (yet)

I admit that I love stats very much. Every point is counted. So when I woke up this morning and at opening blogjer, ah.. I see that blogjer’s Alexa rank has increased, so Alexa is still alive.. intermittently though.

blogjer alexablogjer rank

Couple of days ago, I read an article in Teknobites, TheInquisitr, Centernetworks, and other couple of blogs to see if Alexa rank is still alive and relevant and how often it is updated. I myself has written about the inconsistency of the Alexa update before.

I tried to refrain myself from looking on the article before April 15th, when Alexa announces the changes on how their ranking system work. Back then, the algo is totally useless and sometimes even sounds sarcastic.

Time will tell if Alexa can compete with the like of Compete and Hitwise.

If they are going to die soon, fortunately hubdub has prepared a tombstone for them.

business opportunities when everyone wants to blog

After the recent PRU , blogging seems to be the favourite activity for everyone including our politicians. Be it retired politicians, current MPs or ex-MPs, MPs on both government and oppositions, they are all starting their own blogs. I happen to read somewhere else before, that someone has suggested to put a mandatory prerequisite to have a blog before you can move forward in your politic career path.

Besides, as I grow older, I noticed that even secondary school students have started to blog. And the fact that they’re more knowledgeable and earn more than their older counterparts, is amazing. This is contrary when I was at their age almost 10 years ago. I hardly heard aboutinternet, and blog was such as ‘alien’ term to me back then (yeah blog does exist > 10 years ago). But the world has changed now.

The impact on local market?

More or less this trend will contribute to a higher demand of internet products and services on local internet market such as e-book, especially on how to kick start blogging, how to write , how to make money from blogging and even perhaps, ‘what is blog’. \

Service is another area that could have higher demand in future. There are couple of potential businesses due to the rise of this activity.
First one. As we know, only a handful of politicians know about IT or specifically on how to setup a blog. Most of them (and their staffs) are also ‘buta IT’, or too busy to do that. So to kick off their blog’s development and setup, most likely it will be out sourced to 3rd parties.

Other than web development, SEO does have its own importance too even though most of us missed that part. But I don’t think politic blogs need this, since the author usually is well known public figure, and usually it’ll get promoted from link back and mouth to mouth promotion.
Apart from that, do you think that they have time to properly write and proof read it or translate the article to English or Bahasa Malaysia perfectly? And do they know how to post it? I doubt so. Another pool of money here.

Social media such as Facebook and Youtube has never been as important as now. When free advertising (or campaign) using this media is reachable to mass audience, and as effective as traditional media, it has become such a lethal weapon to your career or business. See Colbie Caillat, and how successful she is. Similar concept can be leveraged to their career or business. They’ll need someone who has vast experience with tips and tricks on these areas to get this done with success. So why wait? Start mastering these skills and go to business.
You might say that there are a lot of Internet Marketers selling ebooks and providing such services. But it’s still not late to jump into the boat. It’s not necessarily true that the inventor will stay ahead of you forever, the late comer . IBM is the best example of computer inventor but end up selling the business to Lenovo due to stiff competition with creative rivals

With current politic and making money online trend nowadays, you can predict more blogs created everyday.

But I ‘m very aware that not everyone is interested to be affiliate marketer or internet marketer. I wish I can post my humble opinion about affiliate marketing, whether it is for everyone soon
