iPad Now Officially Available in Malaysia

5073439694 36d244d30d iPad Now Officially Available in Malaysia

Okey, so my bad of not reading news portal early this morning, but I’m telling you now, that this is real! iPad is finally here! Yes!. Right after I wrote previous post about data plan for iPad from Maxis, I’m browsing local news portal and only then figure out this news. Well, at least I’m still not too late, right? Apple iPad is now finally here, not through telco as usual, but instead through Apple authorized reseller. That’s great, what do you think?

The pricing is definitely cheaper, way cheaper than what is being offered in the grey market. Honestly, I’m kinda surprise with the price, it is dirt cheap, even to Singapore’s iPad set after price conversion. The last time I calculate, iPad WiFi 16GB from Singapore is priced around Rm1720 after converted from SG dollar. But Rm1549 price tag for that model is really rock bottom price, and made my decision to get iPad last month is one of the worst purchase I ever made. Imagine Rm1800 for iPad Wifi-only 16GB and with Apple Singapore warranty, compared to RM1549 price with local warranty! Well, let’s just forget it!

iPad with WiFi
16GB  RM 1,549
32GB  RM 1,849
64GB  RM 2,149
iPad with WiFi + 3G
16GB  RM 1,999
32GB  RM 2,299
64GB  RM 2,599
So iPad will available from authorized Apple reseller in Malaysia such as Machines and Mac Studio, which both has updated their website with the last iPad information, while other reseller like Epicenter has yet to do so, but perhaps later. Each walk in customer is only allowed to purchased up to 3 units only.  But expect the long queue again; not at telco store, but instead now at Apple authorized reseller store. Would you get one?

Maxis Unveil Data Plan for iPad

5218927921 4e1ceeffd3 Maxis Unveil Data Plan for iPad

I’m expecting iPad to be released today, but apparently only data plan is being released by Maxis. I don’t really see a needs for special data plan for iPad as existing data plan is suffice, but iPad being  such a phenomenal device, why must telco not take advantage from it isn’t? So here you go the plans, which available in prepaid and postpaid.

Postpaid plan starts from Rm70 with 3.5GB worth of data, RM90 for 6.0GB of data, and the most expensive plan gives you 15GB worth of data with RM200 subscription fee. Prepaid plan pricing is close to that, except that it is available on daily and weekly prepaid. Daily price is RM8 with 0.5GB of data and weekly for Rm25 with 2GB of data.  Also available in prepaid plan is the similar plan available in postpaid plan.

All plans are without contract or any subscription fee and comes with free micro sim card. And if you own WiFi only iPad, mifi (Wifi modem) is also being offered, but of course with additional charges.

iPad Will Be Here Soon?

5213074357 5b4a5f8816 iPad Will Be Here Soon?

I know it still rumors, but because iPad is something that almost everyone (who loves gadget) wish to have one, I can’t just let it slip from my radar. At least 2 blogs, amanz and mytechnews has reported that iPad will be here soon via Maxis with each both blog provide tentative launch date on 30 December 30 November and 29 November.

You can see the contradict slightly different launch date here, but as they’re getting the info from their own sources, you have to take it with grain of salt, for now. But whenever the launch date is, having this news broke by 2 different sources,  we know this is pretty strong rumors. You can finally get iPad with hopefully reasonable price, as well as affordable data plan.

Looking from the current iPad price trend in the grey market, you can notice that it has gone down pretty steep as of late. It is either competition, weak demand or the possibility of availability of iPad through the official channel, but I guess the later is make more sense now.

On May/June this year, the price of iPad Wifi 16gb version is RM2200 (cheapest that I survey at that time), but when I finally purchase it last month, I got it for only RM1800. That’s the cheapest deal I can found, and I think that is already good price. At that point of time, I haven’t heard any plan/rumors that iPad will be here, but these retailers can sniff something is going to happen and wasting no time to drop the price in order to clear the stock as fast as they can.

Now iPad is almost here, would you get one?
