Unboxing WayWay Q4331i GPS

Like me, I bet you you’ve never heard of WayWay. But you may have heard of Papago, the navigation software that’s powering this stuff. So now you know it is a GPS unit, that’s making its way to my car (after losing my way in Melaka recently) because of its attractive price for 4.3 inch GPS unit. Yes, it is from PC Fair if you ask me from where I got it. Sweetening the deal is Rm50 voucher that can be spent on anything at Fotokem.

I’m not very good in GPS related thingy, so anything that can provide me with clear point to point navigation is good enough to me. Besides that, additional functions such as MP3 player, photo viewer and even ebook reader are such a bonus although it will hardly going to be used. You can read the full features below. The map it is using is from Malsingmaps. Not to forget that it uses Windows CE as the OS.

Q4331i Features:

1. SiRF Atlas-IV, CPU, 500MHZ.
2. Fashionable and ultra-slim design. The thickness is only 13.50mm.
3. 4.3” TFT LCD screen with sensitive touch panel.
4. Has removable and rechargeable Li-Polymer battery pack
5. Built-in high memory capacity of 128MB.
6. Additional storage via MicroSD Card slot
7. In-built 2GB Internal Storage
8. Supports USB 2.0 High-Speed connection
9. Multimedia Player Support
10. Games, calculator & conversion tool function
11. Multiple language support

After using it for 2 days, it works well so far. The map as well as the point to point navigation instruction are accurate. This is true for Cyberjaya, Cheras and KL areas only, the location where this GPS has been tested. In average, it took about 1 minute to lock the GPS signal, but sometimes it could be shorter than that. In terms of battery, it lasts for about 2 hours and the chassis could be little bit warmer as you use it longer.  So that’s all my summary of this GPS unit until today. Interested? HTC Launch HTC Legends, HTC HD Mini and HTC Smart

4518115316 d8e678786d HTC Launch HTC Legends, HTC HD Mini and HTC Smart

HTC in one event yesterday introduced 3 new smart phones models for Malaysian market. The 3 model are HTC Legends, HTC HD Mini and HTC Smart which run on different operating system with each using Android, Windows Mobile and Brew respectively.

HTC Legend is the new addition to HTC’s relatively few Android based smartphone in Malaysia, which comprising only HTC Magic, HTC Tattoo and HTC Hero. It runs on Android 2.1, the latest version of Android OS that looks more promising than the earlier version. Unfortunately, Android Market is still nowhere to be seen in HTC’s phone meant for Malaysia market. That’s one RRP is RM1999

HTC HD Mini is, as you can guess, is the mini version of HTC HD2 that runs on Windows Mobile 6.5.3. True to it’s names “mini”, HTC HD Mini is obviously smaller than it’s more powerful sibling, and lacking the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 1Ghz processor. Thankfully, the intuitive interface and crisps movement is till there.

The third phone, HTC Smart is the less known phone and also the less powerful phone in the show. It run on Qualcom’s Brew OS, a name that sounds new to the most.  With RRP RM779, it is one of the most affordable phone from HTC so far.

Regardless of the OS, all 3 phones interface looks identical, thanks to HTC Sense that now become the standard face of HTC phones. More spec of the phones can be found below.

Joojoo Reviewed

joojoo front1 Joojoo Reviewed

Joojoo, a tablet developed by Garage Fusion and manufactured by CSL has safely received by Engadageters and reviewed by them couple of days ago. The verdict? Not too impressive..  and furthermore they have reviewed iPad before that and you all know that iPad have set the bar of what table/slate should be in future.

But not all is bad about Joojoo. The nice things from Joojoo is the responsiveness of it’s 1366 x 768, capacitive 12-inch display. That produce nice browsing experience as what it is intend to, although there is slight issue with aspect ration, viewing angle and the menu bar. Apart from that, 7 seconds boot time, and Wifi connectivity and speed is what Joojoo should be credited for.

Flash. Yes Joojoo does support Flash, but the software to support that is not yet ready. Youtube can still be viewed with some hack technique implemented in Joojoo. Having seen this other part of the OS, the reviewer is correct when he describe it as half-baked OS. In testing some features, Joojoo has to be rebooted couple of times as well before it works properly. It’s pity that Joojoo still has this kind of small problem that it should overcome earlier.

I’m cheering when Joojoo comes with USB port, but apparently the only function for the USB port is for damn charging only, due to the fact that Joojoo is fully browser based OS. Many expecting the USB could be use for transferring data but that’s not gonna happen.

Battery is another Joojoo weak point, where it can last only 2.5 hours in full use. That’s far from 10.5 hours tested on iPad. Joojoo also get warmer as you use longer that the reviewer conclude is due to the Intel Atom and NVidia Ion chip. It’s gonna tough to fix weakness point due to hardware issue.

Expecting Joojoo to have the same level of excitement as iPad proven to be wrong, but having seen Joojoo as the second tablet/slate that manage to get into production is still quite achievement.  Full review.
