After waiting for almost 1 month to have new notebook, HP Elitebook 6930 is finally mine as replacement for aging notebook. It’s a brand new notebook, but HP Elitebook 6930 is not a new model. It has been in the market since end of 2008, but the metal casing and other finishes, made it looks as just recently released model.
Entry level business notebook tend to be bulky, including this one, but it appear to have less weight than the old notebook. Powering it is Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8Ghz with 2GHz RAM, which is blazingly fast (perhaps my old notebook too slow), despite not having the latest Intel Core i series. Well, it is suffice to my standard.
Despite plastered with ‘Windows Vista’ sticker, the notebook is still running on Windows XP SP2. It comes with Internet Explorer 6, browser that everyone try to get rid with. No surprise here.
The decision to deploy aging OS and browser on the notebook at most global companies that I work, is usually made based on the it’s compatibility with existing enterprise application. These ‘legacy’ applications which was developed years ago when IE6 is conquering 98% browsing market, is best run on Internet Explorer 6 and Windows XP. Software fall in this category are usually internally developed proprietary application which has not received any update for compatibility purpose. It may works on newest version of OS or browser, but no extensive testing done on that, or the lack of fund to run the project meant for that.
Looks like I have gone too far, anyhow, this is the best business notebook I have so far..
