I found one brief unboxing P1 Wiggy (P1′s Wimax modem) video, done by P1 team them self. There is nothing so special on unboxing part, as it’s just merely showing fancy modem inside metal casing.
The exciting part is when they’re running a speed test using speedtest.net, which produce very impressive result. It recorded 2.66mbps and 0.67 mbps for download and upload respectively. Tempting isn’t? I bet everybody love to have such speed at home, right. It’s look promising if this is for real (at all places) and of course continuously.
No location where the testing took place provided, but always keep in mind that speed is different from one place to another. It demonstrated how fast downloading videos from Ruumz as well, but as pointed out by someone in the video comment section, such speed is achievable due to the content that is hosted on the local website.
As comparison, my 1MB package Streamyx speed test is 0.72mbps/0.07mbp for download/upload when there are 3 computers connected simultaneously. The number is obviously lower than what P1 Wiggy has, but I still have faith in HSBB to deliver something better than that, or else it’s probably time to move on.
Talking about productivity tools, one can never forget Microsoft Office on desktop and Google Docs on web. They’re competing product that invade each other turf (Google with Gears that allow Google Docs to go Offline, and Microsoft with it’s Office Web Apps) but surprisingly ‘close’ thanks to OffiSync.
OffiSync is an Office extension that ultimately allow you to save your Office documents to Google Docs & Google Sites, and at anytime open it back from within Microsoft Office. It is also collaboration tools (via Google Docs) that allow multiple editing with changes update done automatically, but the later is not so relevant if you’re the only one who using it. But whatever it is, it is a must have application if you use both of them.
Here is how OffiSync works for you.
1. As Office extension, OffiSync is accessible from your Office application screen shot from Office 2007). No hassle of opening other application in order to upload/download the copy of your files. It is also compatible with Office 2010 Beta.
2. Save/Open Office Documents To/From Google Docs/Microsoft Office just like they are inside your computers!
3. Sharing is caring, and here how you can show your generousness. To start collaboration, an invitation email to the participants must be send beforehand. Recipients who receive the invitation opened the document and start editing via Google Doc.
Other than that, you can email, copy link as well as open the document online.
Blackberry OS version 4.6.1.314 for Blackberry Curve 8520 device, which was released early November is now available for everyone. The update which is said to fix the browser issue can be installed from the Blackberry Desktop Manager. More detail here.
It took approximately 50 minutes to complete overall upgrade OS including back up and restore the data back. If your OS currently run on 4.6.1.286, you may want to update although no major enhancement introduced.
Just have Chromium OS installed on one of my machines, thanks to this guide. I use Sun Virtual Box as the virtual machines with Chromium OS image from gdgt.
If you already use Chrome browser, you will be very much familiar with this OS. It looks exactly the same, except the existence of 3 small icons at the top right corner of the OS (on my 4th screen shot), representing the battery indicator, Wifi and other menu similar to what Chrome has.
But seriously, is this what Chromium OS all about? Chrome browser with all apps on the cloud and… boot in 7 seconds? Not too excite with the boot time as my systems up almost the time. You may said that it still in beta, but beta should give an insight what the final product would be, am I right?
It may works at certain developed countries only where internet connection is everywhere, but not on developing countries where internet is still an expensive ‘commodity’ and with limited coverage. I have not much to say as there is very few things to mentioned with regard to Chromium OS.
