How to sync iTunes audio files to Blackberry devices

If you own Apple portable devices such as iPod or even iPhone, I bet that you want to have the same songs, pod casts available when you switch to other devices such as Blackberry.  Apparently that is possible for Blackberry devices with only only few clicks away using Blackberry Desktop Manager.

Blackberry Media Sync as this function called, will sync the music kept in iTunes and Windows Media Player. I’m not sure if music stored in Zune can sync with Windows Media Player and subsequently sync with Blackberry devices, but iTunes work just fine.

From the Blackberry Desktop Manager’s main menu, click on the ‘Media’ menu, which bring you to media screen. Under ‘Blackberry Media Sync’ section, click the ‘Launch’ button. If this is the first time you using it, it will prompt you to install this application. Wait until installation to complete, before relaunch it.

WordPress for iPhone 2 out now

WordPress 2, which available for download in App Store beginning yesterday is entirely new application in iPhone. So if you have previous version installed, you wouldn’t be alerted the availability of the new version. While it is unclear why they start over from scratch, this are some of enhancement made on WordPress 2.

  • A new, more efficient user interface that makes it faster to switch between comments, posts, and pages.
  • Various user interface refinements and bug fixes
  • New Comments interface, with Gravatars and the author URL shown in the comment list
  • Passwords are now stored in the keychain
  • Posts are now automatically saved and restored if network connection is lost during publishing
  • Added persistence, so the app re-opens in the blog you last used
  • Added an interface for manually entering the XMLRPC endpoint for non-standard setups
  • Fixed rotation-related visual glitches
  • Fixed errors where malformed XML prevented access to XMLRPC endpoint
  • Fixed edge case where local drafts were sometimes not saved
  • Fixed the order of photos so that they’re displayed in the order they’re uploaded

My experience using WordPress in iPhone is limited due to my preference of larger screen when I’m writing something complex. Managing comments is the most frequently used function, it’s handy because I can manage comments whenever I want and it saved my times a lot when I’m in front of computer.

To me, WordPress in iPhone is undoubtedly a great application, but it suit most for photoblog or personal blog, that require less writing and research. Not to forget the person on the go, that have litle time to put their thought into the piece of post called internet.

Budget 2010 Set To Boost Internet Broadband

Malaysia Prime Minister has unveiled the budget for the year of 2010, totaling RM189.499 billion last week. It receive mixed reaction from various level of peoples, with pros and cons being discussed .

While we left the rest of the 2010 budget for experts to discuss, it bring some good news related to internet broadband that left the consumers nothing but to cheers with it! Let’s take a look at them.

- Tax relief for broadband subscription of up to RM500 from 2010 to 2012. Simply the cream of the day. It will surely bring the new users in, and existing wired internet broadband users might spending for wireless internet broadband as the second option.

- Netbook with free broadband package for local universities student for 2 years period with payment as low as RM50 per month starting Jan 2010. Oh my… this is just what every students nowadays really wants. Notebook/netbook with internet connection so that they can hang on to the internet 24 hours a days..

- RM5,000 computer loan for civil servant once in 3 years. Not something really new, because even before this, this scheme already in place but it is limited  once in 5 years. I wonder how many civil servants really use this loan to fully buy a new computer? With RM5,000, you can get really high end machines, such as Macbook Pro or Dell Adamo.

To give you an idea what the current state of Malaysia’s internet broadband is, the penetration rate stood at just 28% . We’re behind the likes of Singapore and South Korea who has penetration rate of 88% and 97% respectively.

Back to year 1999 when we just have our first internet broadband network (Streamyx), we’re on par with South Korea and slightly better than Singapore. But since then, there are very little improvements (or stagnant) in term of speed and service over the years, and it is not surpriseing to see how far us now behind these countries.

But thanks to the competition and the entrance of the new players, 3G and WiMAX technology, the price has gone down slightly now. We have more options nowadays as compared 2-3 years back. The bandwidth is greater as well. Don’t you feel lucky now?

The timely incentive announced by government should boost the broadband usage to the new level. As such, new infrastructures are required to cater the additional users.  This is crucial because without the enhanced services, we’re nowhere to reach the target expected from this incentive.

One of the good news is, the High Speed BroadBand (HSBB) project is ready to be launched by the first quarter of 2010,  and available at Tun Dr. Ismail, Bangsar, Subang Jaya dan Shah Alam.

I’m expecting  internet service providers (ISP) such as Streamyx and Jaring, telcos such as Celcom, Maxis, Digi and Wimax providers such as P1 will tailor their offering to looks as attractive as they can in order to take advantage of this. Just my thought..

  • More notebook/netbook/dekstop plus broadband package with installment plan available on the market.
  • Aggressive marketing strategies from these companies to attract more customers. By now I believe more users will start flocking to them or have it in mind. Price war perhaps after this?

What say you?

p/s: The upcoming PC Fair will surely be crowded again with internet broadband agents.

Windows 7 Compatibility Check

The most anticipated software of the year, Windows 7 is officially out yesterday. Aimed to wrestle back the market share, forget the pain that Windows Vista has endured, and persuaded Windows XP users to move on, this is gonna be what each and every single PC users needed. An upgrade to modern operating system that’s free from insecurity, instability, buggy and etc.

PC users tend to buy new machine to enjoy new operating system, because it’s cheaper to do so. OEM vendor like Acer bought the OS in bulk and then bundle it with their hardware. But how about if you’ve already owned many systems (notebook & desktop) left idle. Do you still prefer to get a new one, while the one in use still works fine?

So here is what upgrade meant for (Upgrade rarely practiced for PC). Before upgrading, Microsoft has prepared Windows 7 Compatibility Centre to check the software and hardware compatibility of your devices with Windows 7. Make sure you check this out.

There are 2 sections here. The first section allows you to check your software compatibility online. Type the software name that you have, and it will return the results on whether your software is compatible or not.

The second part is hardware compatibility check. First you have to download and install so called Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor agent into your machine. This Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will scan through your computers (with all other devices connected as well) and recommend if your computer is upgradeable and which Windows 7 version suits best.

It will also provide compatibility report to other devices connected, as well as utility program that your devices used.

If you find your computer upgradeable, it is time to shop for Windows 7. Look out for a good deal, whether it is wiser to buy the OS itself, or shop for more powerful PC with Windows 7 installed. Check out Windows 7 requirement carefully before you make any decision. Finally, enjoy your new OS!
