Faulty circuit on APCN2 cable, causing Streamyx service disruption to US traffic

On the last couple of days, I started to feel the slowness of Stremyx to the level that I can’t stand with it anymore. Oddly, it happens only to the websites located in the US. Not the type of the person who jump to the conclusion by blaming Streamyx, I did my own googling.

It took only 1 minute to figure what happens. Apparently it started since 18th of February when there is circuit fault on the cable that links Malaysia internet traffic to the US. Is is estimated to get fixed by 5th of March. Chill out then.. not Stremyx fault.

This is the official announcement from Streamyx. Do you check Stremyx website before voicing your frustration/anger against Stremyx on blog or Twitter?

SERVICE INTERRUPTION

Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) wishes to announce that there is a disruption of its Internet services since 18 February 2009 due to circuit fault on the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) between Kuantan - Katong in Singapore and Shantou - Tanshui in Taiwan linking Malaysia to the United States (US).

Due to this, customers using Internet services may now experience slow browsing while accessing content hosted in the U.S. In addition, customers using other IP services such as Virtual Private Network (VPN) and other critical business applications linked to the US may also experience some service degradation.

To alleviate the problem, some of the links have been rerouted to alternate routes to ease the congestion.

During the restoration process, traffic to Northern America may experience minor degradation while traffic to other countries is not affected. TM expects the complete recovery of its services by 5 March 2009. TM will make further announcements on the progress of the restoration works.

TM wishes to assure its customers that it is undertaking all necessary measures to restore communications services for its customers as soon as possible.

Customers can call TM at 100 and select “Internet Services” or e-mail us at help@tm.com.my for any Internet related problems.

Thank you

Google Japan is creative but sometimes not..

When I watch this Chrome promotion video, the creativeness of Google Japan folks can be clearly seen there. But, it remind me back an incident when Google Japan been penalized by their own ‘godfather’, Google for buying paid link via pay-per-post. Google.co.jp end up at pagerank 5 instead of 9 before.

It happens at the time when Google raise its effort in busting paid link. Last year, they dropped bombs to numbers of establish blog and websites , for alleged selling links. Ironically, while they’re blaming webmasters for not complying with their search guidelines, their employees are not on the same page with the boss. Funny right?

That paid link campaign is an effort from marketing team, which usually play some role, together with creative team in producing advertisement. Well.. yeah, people did wrong sometime, so here is the video.

Wannabe the first to know an update about Adamo? The teaser site for Malaysian market is already there, so just sign up there. But what is Adamo?

Adamo is the new slim, thin and slick notebook lineup  from Dell. Not sure when it is going to be on market though. Oh, btw, Dell’s profit down almost 50%. Could it be another salary cut just like HP?
