Rafe’s anti layoff spreadsheet – IT jobs for unemployed

A while back, CNET’s Rafe have compiled a ‘Tech layoffs: The scorecard‘  which list down the IT companies and number of employees getting laid off in IT industry.

Now, he is doing something better with the ‘anti-layoff spreadsheet‘. It list down jobs available/companies hiring that gathered from the word spreads through his Twitter (Twitter rock!).

Good luck in your finding for job, and kudos to Rafe

Dell leading over HP for laptop/notebook related search

HP is undoubtedly the world’s largest computer maker, but when it came to online shopping search, Dell is slightly leading over HP. Not surprisingly though,  since HP strength lies on its retail presence all over the world. While Dell which had just opened it door to retail or offline sales, is continuing its effort to conquer laptop sales online

For the period of September-December, Dell hold nearly 5 percent keyword share, with HP on distant third with 2.5% on Compete’s top 10 site statistic that shoppers were referred to by keyword or search.

Other top referrers are including Yahoo and e-commerce website such as Ebay, Amazon & Bestbuy

Apart from this figure, there are other analysis which can be viewed in Compete blog

Google Chrome – Beta no more

google chrome Google Chrome Beta no more

Barely 100 days released in Beta mode, Chrome has been officially released from Beta (stark contrast to Gmail which in Beta since introduced in 2004). And the main reason behind the removal of beta label is the better stability and  performance that Chrome had achieved so far.

Ironically, Firefox had just released its 3.1 Beta Release 2 version few days back. Whether this is merely coincident, or the timing issue, between this 2 competing internet browsers are unknown. But undeniably, Chrome has made significant impact to Firefox. With 10 millions download in 100 days, and the fact that it is quite popular among geeks and blogger which help spread the words faster is surely turn every attention to Chrome

On 5th release, Google claim that Chrome promising stability, greater performance, speedy, secured and better privacy control. Additionally better bookmark features has been introduced with import & export features.

RSS support will be added in near future, even though you can now click the RSS button to subscribe the content in RSS reader successfully, without being shown a ‘weird looking’ web page.

Overall, Chrome is incredibly fast (they got benchmark), but I’m still waiting for ‘ads block’ feature available, before I’ll using it more frequent that I’m now.

Even Yahoo forgot to upgrade its blog with latest WordPress

You’re forgiven if you haven’t updated your blog to WordPress 2.7

Apparently 2 of Yahoo blogs that run on WordPress, Yahoo Mail blog & Profile blog are still running on ‘ancient’ WordPress 2.5.

I believe that they’re putting greater bandwidth on the development & innovation instead of blog administration like this. Just make sure you feel ‘secured’ with it.

Google Zeitgeist – Top Queries 2008

zeitgeist 2008 Google Zeitgeist Top Queries 2008

The most wanted list from Google is out today. Google Zeitgeist (having hard time to pronounce it), listing what’s popular, trend, top query or top search for the period of 2008. So here they are…

Fastest Rising (Global)

  1. sarah palin
  2. beijing 2008
  3. facebook login
  4. tuenti
  5. heath ledger
  6. obama
  7. nasza klasa
  8. wer kennt wen
  9. euro 2008
  10. jonas brothers

I know you’re puzzled with some of the phrases here, which you never came across before, so Google it la.

Apart from global list, there are also Google Zeitgeist grouped regionally. As usual, I took a peak of what’s hot in my country, Malaysia.

Malaysia – Generally, Malaysians tend to search on political related news and updates, so Google Zeitgeist is grouped by search of that criteria, mostly. Some that caught my attention:

Anwar Ibrahim topping the local  celebrities list, which I believe you all can guess why. Apparently, Chua Soi Lek has got more queries than our past prime minister, Dr Mahathir.

Perodua Nautica – Given the small numbers of this vehicle on the roads, it is quite surprising to see it topping the list. Perhaps people rarely see this car and are curious how it does look like, or people are anticipating Nautica will be another hit from Perodua when it is proven to be otherwise.

Terengganu is the top local tourist destinations in Malaysia. Yeah, I’m blogging from there, although the real purpose is not for leisure.
