Submarine cables cut(again), causing internet disruption

Friends of mine including me started to notice about the internet slowness in Friday, especially when trying to access overseas websites during midnight. Don’t put a blame on Streamyx although it is a good idea to for get this announced on their site earlier.

The culprit is again submarine cables reported to be GO submarine cable, located 130km off Sicily, which were severed by suspected seismic. Almost 65% of traffic to India was down, while services to Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Taiwan and Pakistan are also affected.

In Malaysia, the slowness is happen intermittently during the day, but quite obvious at the night when accessing overseas sites. The impact is considered less severe, as compared to the incidents happened earlier this year when traffic to overseas websites were totally down.

This round, the fix are estimated to complete by 31st December.

Chitika Premium as backup ads for Nuffnang/Advertlets

chitika Chitika Premium as backup ads for Nuffnang/Advertlets

The blank space left by Nuffnang or  Advertlets ads shown to the visitors coming from the country outside of the ads originated (e.g: Malaysia Singapore) is really a waste especially if the number is huge. You’re loosing a revenue which you suppose to be able to tap it into.

So when I stumbled Chitika Premium, I think that what I’m looking at, something to fill in that gap. But why Chitika Premium?

sample Chitika Premium ads

Chitika Premium ads only appears on the web page for visitors coming from US & Canada whom referred to your blog/sites via search engine. That means, if the visitors are coming from countries such as Malaysia or Singapore, Nuffnang/Advertlets ads will appear, while visitors from US & Canada referred by search engine will be shown with Chitika Premium Ads such as above.

If you’re new to Chitika, don’t worry to much. The installation is straight forward . After registration process, follow the steps by steps guide until the part where you’re asked what do you want to display for the non-US & Canada traffics. So grab your Nuffnang/Adverlets code, put it in a text file as instructed and follow the steps till completion. You’re safe now.

Is it worth?? My experiment is not really encouraging, but why bother when the blank space earn you nothing? Head to Chitika if you think it suit your site’s needs.

p/s: this is not an advertorial post and no affiliate link included, but merely my testing.

Widgeting RSS

I have some free time playing around with widget today, which bring me to WidgetBox.One the largest widget sites on the net, I guess.

With its tool, creating widget was simple. There are different type of widget you can choose from such as for Flash, HTML or even Google Gadget.

I’m looking something that can display my RSS feed nicely, and there you go my first attempt (and my only one).

As I say earlier this is only for fun, and I’m not gonna put it here (maybe somewhere else). Widget is definitely No-No if you put a performance ahead of fancy looking blog, but in case you think otherwise, grab it here.

Where is Google??

2008 is almost end with only few days left. But 1 question remain unanswered.

For local bloggers or those on IT industry are surely remember, once a breaking news about Google who in talk with MDEC (Gov IT arm) to setup office or data center in Malaysia.

Nothing heard afterwards. Anyone know what is the progress??

With global eonomy crisis and with Google themselves laying offs employess , it could be the plan has been scrapped, regardless how best MDEC offer is.

Still, I hope to get it materialized..
