Blackberry Bold – Maxis VS Celcom package plan
Since iPhone most likely won’t be around ‘legally’ at the moment, lets jump to another cool gadget from RIM, Blackberry. Well yeah, only Blackberry Bold manage to give Apple’s iPhone 3G run for their money.
Hoping to see Blackberry Bold faded, once seeing a big BlackBerry Bold photo on both Maxis & Celcom sites. Why we used to be behind when it come to get ‘cool’ device huh, probably for one exception, for gadget made in Korea, Japan or Finland.
Although I favor iPhone over Blackberry (except when Storm make it way here) for many reasons , the superiority of Blackberry over iPhone for business users and functionality is undeniable. The Blackberry strength lies on it rock solid service of delivering email to and from mobile devices. The service disruption is a rare, especially in Malaysia based on my colleagues experience of using company sponsored Blackberry which run on Celcom network.
Ahh, excuse me if I sound like promoting Blackberry. In Malaysia, Blackberry is only offered by Maxis & Celcom. I’m not ultra busy person who who devoted myself for emails, but if the price and the plan is right, why should I avoiding Blackberry, correct?
Having said that, I made a simple spreadsheet, comparing the plan between Maxis & Celcom side by side. The idea is to identify, which one offer the best value for money. Keep in mind though, the price and service compared is only for consumers usage.
Celcom’s plans looks more attractive than those offered by Maxis. Celcom didn’t mention if their data plan had included Internet/WAP service, even though I believe so but if it is otherwise, Celcom plan is surely less attractive than Maxis. Instead of price, sometime it is the quality of service that determi

You should compare with voice charges because you pay for email + voice service.

Celcom, Maxis , Digi… erm.. which is the best.. price, package, services, coverage??? you make a choice.. i’ve been a users for celcom over a 11 years already. and they never down for thier customer. I’ve use Digi, I’ve use Maxis… bet they have a great presentation of thier package…. but bare in mind…. culculate thier package offer to others. which one you need best… Best Coverage, Widest Coverage, Best PRices, its Celcom…… wait for the magazine from EDGE Malaysia come out on 20 Nov 2009. You’ll be surpise… Broadband— unlimited but have fair usage… Maxis 3GB, Digi 3GB, Umobile 3GB, Celcom 5GB. If you not like the fair usage.. use streamyx… Fair Usage doesn’t mean your line will cut off, it only become slower only. Think again.. Check the coverage site.. http://www.celcom.com.my/broadband , http://www.digi.com.my , http://www.maxis.com.my ..
@Aishah – That was expected… the price is ridiculously cheap.. I heard that someone queue 12hpours before the event but still end up empty handed.
@DR BB – I’m with you.. stick with Streamyx no matter how good the other offer is.. except you’re frequently outdoor..
@Admin : yeahhh… streamyx rock… but only at home.. on mobile i’m on my BlackBerry. facebook, YM, GTalk, BB MEssenger… Browser.. all in 1… so.. times is running out and past you by.. think about technology.. celcom is going to 7.4mb for broadband… test has been done… ok ok…
@others: join celcom network.. hidden tips.. take P148 .. all in one.. call 10cent all number , sms 2 cent , Broadband HSDPDA unlimited….. what more you want?????? Free Device… yeahhh you got it….
@DR BB. Same here
Mine on Celcom BIS..
Halo! wanna ask sometin’
@Pacman – yes, what’s your question?
I am currently on Celcom Exec 50 + Data + BB. All in all costing me a minimum of RM148 per month.
I am planning to get a BB for my wife and looking for the cheapest package around. As for celcom, what i have now (RM148) is the cheapest. For Maxis, we’ve to pay RM120 for the data+BB and subscribe to a call plan. the cheapest call plan is the RM30 (high call rate), making the total of RM120+30.
I have to say that Celcom has the most competitive offer, but you have to make do with the LOUSY customer service if you have any problem.
I am a 012 user, but MNP to celcom for the cheaper rate and BB plan. There are days which i would rather pay more for better customer service.
Customer service – Maxis
Coverage & Price – Celcom
aiman.. you want a chepest package… go for celcom BB package for only 118…. so cheap.. or if you not really on email.. go for prepaid blackberry… use xpax… my wife use it,… and i can control her usage…. she only use facebook and instant messaging… you asking about customer service… here in Sarawak we got BB Doctor here… if you from Sarawak (kuching especialy) you know who he is.. and its belong to CELCOM…. what more you want…. and plus one thing.. not all thing are perfect,,,,,
actually,celcom packacge have a full packacge for blackberry user..bec0z celc0m already update n upgrade the system for internet plan,voice and already arrange a blackberry license for celcom blackberry user.f0r me,celcom is a largest,clearest and the widest in all plan.
Thx a lot for u guys in this forum. I’ve been subscribing Celcom since the day I was bck fr UK. Despite giving me super nice number at no cost, I had had experience ‘sms’ missing, or shld I call it ‘lost in transition’(?) in few occasions. With the same continuing experience, I was contemplating to subscribe to Maxis cheapest plan as an alternative line or 2nd line (as many other Malaysians do have) for me so that my friends or biz acquaintance will have no excuse not to get in touch with me. I was also considering Digi but with new white BB in the market, Maxis plan is quite tempting. But after I follow your discussion in this thread, I think Maxis should has not been my choice at the first place.
I just call up one Lelong.com Store Member who is selling new BB with 1 yr warranty and he is offering RM1700 (w/o line) or RM1600 w reg. line. I think, his offer is much better than what Maxis is offering unless his units are not authenticated. But I do believe they are genuine, right guys?
@Aidi – I used Celcom and Digi but I never had any SMS missing issue before. The problem with getting BB not from the telco provider is that, you can’t get 1 on 1 exchange if your phone is faulty, as only telco is the only authorized reseller for BB. I alway stay away from other AP set for blackberry service due to that concern.
Hi Aidi, welcome back to Malaysia… lol.. ok ok.. celcom , maxis , digi…. erm…. what is you decision…. have you ever been to read at http://mytechnews.info/b/2010/06/digi-celcom-sign-mou-on-network-collaboration.html .. click and read. on the long term , i think Celcom will take over digi just what happen to last time on TM Touch. DId you ever know, there are many case where, Maxis sms to Celcom number, its delay and sometimes never reach… but when Celcom sms to Maxis, it arrive short after. ….. do you ever imagine what kind of network that they had.. and how many people are using it… look at the coverage.. and now digi is riding on Celcom Tower to get the better radius…
and friend.. Lelong.com .. what a great place to hang out… for what they are selling in it, you better look before buy.. the set that they are selling are all from oversea set.. and it is a legal one… dont worry coz all BB cannot be copycat 100% such as nokia and iphone. BB software was special enough to protect your data and file. its was design to it top security. (p/s Obama is using Blackberry now)… and at lelong, its genuine.. but beware of the word “Look A-like”…. hehehehe. you know what i mean.. i been in lelong.com since 2002. since then i know how it work and which is honest seller.
Than back to topic… Celcom Maxis Digi… ermm… i still stick to Celcom though… Maxis not that good when goes to some area out of town.. (dead 3G/2G).. Digi only great in centre town….. but….. for 2nd line, yes you can get it for backup..
Celcom got new package.. Minimum Rm28 per month postpaid….. they called it P28.
:0
Anyone know what is the contains package for the P28? I can not check it through online even thought celcom main web-page…
Hey Guys. It has been a while after my last visit to this forum thread. I’ve got the reply from The Admin and DR BB but couldn’t reply the messages as I was having problem with my PC (BIOS problem and it keeps on shutting and restarting my PC without warning – still hvg it but not so frequent)
I wanted to thank to both of you for both advices. I nearly bought the BB from that independent dealer bcoz of the discounted price but reconsider it after reading your advices. I am now waiting for white BB or new BB from Celcom package which will be introduced soon.
hye…….is verizon set can be used for all telco????
@hanif verizon use cdma, no sims at all, it can’t be use here
mr admin…..cdma???…..can u describe it plss???
i had an offer to buy a bb tour 9630…but the bb is verizon set…should i buy it or not???……
Don’t buy if you’re going to use it in country like malaysia that using gsm. Read thi article http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-gsm-and-cdma.htm
some people from lowyat.net says that….it can be use in malaysia……but onlu can be used with maxis only…….it is true??….
@Hanif, really?? CDMA phone doesn’t even have sim slot if I’m not mistaken, how r they going to use it with Maxis? I’m quite interested to know that as well, it they’re telling the truth
its has sim card slot….currently im trying to get the BIS from maxis…but nned sime procedure to do it…..
Hi ya all… sorry for the late reply, to many patient i have here. ok ok….
@Dr Jim – P28 you can get the detail from the Celcom Branch directly. its cheap.
@Aidi – your welcome… welcome to the club of Blackberry….
@Hanif – CDMA is a network structure that doesnt have in Malaysia. I heard a lot of people telling me MAxis can use CDMA (Tour) in malaysia. Thats not true. Of course you can use maxis in that bb, BUT…. the BB services are cannot be activate due to our network are different from europe. if you use it also, what you can use is call and sms.. mms always fail one. and also, call and sms are sometimes fail due to the device CDMA in malaysia. IF you really want the tour so much, try out the BB BOld 9700 , much more better than tour. what different can i make, Bold 9700 got wifi,gps,HSDPA, Email push mail, Camera 3.2 megapixel with autofocus etc. here are tips for buying the BB in malaysia. To check weather you can use it in malaysia, look at program call “Manage Connection” and “Mobile Network Option”. From there, scroll down and see the Network Mode , if you see it got 3G, 2G, “3G and 2G” then this device can be use at Malaysia Telco. But if you see other than this, then that device cannot be use.

Lets see, Digi,Maxis and Celcom, Did they offer any BB Tour in their package??? NO!!… They go directly to BB Bold 9700 which is BB Onyx..
@Admin – how are you bro?……
@dr bb….thanks for ur guide…but im currently use tour…….already activate it……already can mms….already can bbm…….already can emailing……already can fbing…….what else can be done with bb???……….main reason for using this tour bcos i already buy it……..eheheheh…….if not so…i maybe change it to bold….
@Hanif – Well, you can use it now. But its run on 2G or 3G? and how much per month on Maxis line.. And i though so that you already buy the devive…… let us know on 1 month later using tour on malaysia network.. and what is your comment..
@dr bb…..run it 3G………..orite…….in 1 month later i will tell it…..
@Dr Bb tq for answering question over here, I’m fine anyway, just quite lazy moderating comments posted here, it’s bad I know. Still using bb but now it is ranked 3rd in the device that I love most, can’t wait bb 6 to come, but i read even storm 2 is not qualified for upgrade
@hanif your CDMA tour has sim slot?
